Nokia 1221 Prepaid Phone (TracFone)

have a Nokia 1100 Tracfone that saves me quite a bit of money from the monthly contracts i used to have with Cingular cellphone service. If you email me for a referral before activating then Tracfone will give each of us 100 free minutes!

Good phone

I have had this phone for about a week. Previous phone Samsung A-460 (keep in mind). Pros:
* Good battery life only needs charge about every 3-4 days, not bad considering I average 900+ min a month.
* 2 Charger Optons, either data link style or a male female connector at 5 volt.
* Loud! speaker phone with above average clarity. People cant really tell the difference.
* Push and hold speaker button when closed and automatically activates speaker phone with voice dial, all the while never having to open. This is convenient if you use a car holder, as you can answer the same way by just pressing this button.
* External caller ID, so you don't have to open the phone to know who's calling.
* Call screening feature, it answers and plays a message and you can screen the call via the speaker and answer if need be.
* Good reception, places I thought not possible. ie Eisenhauer tunnel.
* AirPlane Mode. Lets you play games and such without enableing communications.
* Useable as a modem for laptop. Cons:
* Lack of accessories friendly to high use in autos.
* Lack of traditional "ringers" to select from. You have to download them from sprint and they are only good for 90 days. Very annoying.
* Games are also 'Trial' versions. You have to pay to actually Keep a game and use it for more than 2 min at a time.
* Sprint is not always the best to deal with.
* No real alarm! You have to set an appointment, and if you need it daily, set to repeat. Though every time you turn the phone on it will sound an alarm thinking you missed the apt.
* Kind of poor audio with the ear speaker. I enjoy this phone and it definately makes daily use more convenient and satisfying. Now if someone made a car holder more compatible with this and some more choices for a holster it would get a 5 star.

15 months - even happier with it then when I bought it

I did not expect to be still using this thing over a year from having had purchased it. It has taken some serious knocks and still works (in fact the 3rd time I dropped it it cleared a problem with the talk button that happened the 2nd time it was dropped)The standard apps that come with it are not so hot but there is truly excellent software out there. I have bought a lot of software for it which really surprises me. I use it for listening to long audiobooks in MP3 using PocketPlayer, which can play an 18kbps audiobook well and bookmarks your location. I listen to text using Fonix iSpeak, great for catching up on my reading in the car, and dial using Fonix VoiceDial. I also use it as a GPS with Mapopolis and a Haicom mouse GPS. Being able to use the contacts to find directions to a location dynamically, and phone on the way is really, really useful. This phone hasn't dropped in price for over a year which indicates that it is as useful as it was a year ago. T-mobile service is fine, the 1000 and 3000 plans are a great deal.

Nice but one problem.

Well this beats the snot out of the phone Verizon gave me. I've had it a year and the sound quality is still teh w1n! One problem though, the vibration is really weakass. I mean, I had it in my jacket pocket and couldn't even feel it. I missed a bunch of calls! So I put it in my pants pocket and I could just barely feel it when it rang. Not even putting it in my pants helped that much. I'm frustrated.

The quick buttons cause more problems than it should...

I've had this phone for about 7 months now. I mainly bought it for its compact design (even though I've always liked flip phones in the past) and most of the reviews I read before purchasing it seemed pretty good to me.

The only problem I had with this was the "easy to access the internet" feature. As some people have complained on here, mine would connect randomly and I'd have to write to Cingular every month for the first three months and make them reimburse me for the charges. And this all happened even with the auto key lock feature because sometimes I would press the "end" call button twice and it'd try to connect to the internet.

Now, I'm used to using this phone, so that rarely happens. I make sure that my friends know when they are using my phone not to hit the end button twice at the end of each call.

It takes rather bad pictures, but it's good enough to recognize the faces. Also, you can't download polyphonic ringtones.

Overall, I'd say I feel ambivalent about the phone. I like it enough, but I must admit, I did start looking for another phone 2 months after I bougth it... And I was especially furious when I got a mailing from Amazon that I wasn't eligible for the $200 rebate because I bought the phone one day before the rebate started. Granted, I should have looked at all the fine prints, but WHY DID THEY ADVERTISE THE REBATE NEXT TO THE PHONE IF IT WASN'T CURRENT!? Yeah... I was pretty pissed.

I do get a lot of compliments on how "cute" the phone is from random people though, if that counts for anything.

excellent phone, but STATIC

I just got this phone today and loved every feature of it. Then I actually made a call. There is a constant background static. It does not have to do with the service because my old phone (Motorola T721) did not have static in the same spot and the constant static only increased/decreased if I increased/decreased the volume of my phone.

I do still love this phone and have contacted support in hopes to get a new phone or fix this one. If I find a solution to this problem or if I get a new phone and it is static-free my review will jump to a 5 star.

Bad Very Very BAD

Please do yourself a favor, click the back button, and forget you ever saw this phone. It's cute small design makes you think it must be a great phone. Looks can be deceving. I live in NYC and still reception is not as great as my new nokia 6800. The ringtones are WAY too low and the vibration is not felt at all when walking. I never know when people are calling me because either i cant hear it or the phone just turned off for no reason. Lastly, THE BATTERY IS HORRIBLE. After a five minute call, my battery is dead!!! This is the second return to AT&T, and still I have horrible battery life!!! I am getting rid of this phone. I expected more from motorola. I can now only trust Nokia, their ringtones are LOUD for city settings, and their battery life is WONDERFUL. Please take out advice! We aren't lying! The battery life is a joke!

Do Not BUY!!! Warning!

All three of us in our small company got treo 600s in November. We were super pscyhed about the great features (email, web, camera, hotsync, etc) and couldn't wait to start using the new phones. The problems started less than a month later. The screen on one of the phones started getting a strange red pixilation that kept growing and a new one had to be sent. Then in February, the other two phones phones got sent back because the phone feature suddenly stopped working (a hardware problem). Then, just recently, another phone had to be sent back because of a very loud buzzing (apparently this is a very common problem), and ANOTHER one was just returned because it randomly just stopped getting service.

These phones are HORRIBLE. I've had lots of different types of phones and services, and these problems have actually affected the business, and our ability to answer our clients.

Don't waste the money! (p.s. i've heard from a very kind treo sales person that the treo 650's have just as many problems)

Definately One Of The Best Phones Out There

I purchased this phone at about Chrismas '03 and it's by far the best phone I've ever had. The fold out keyboard makes it much easier to send text messages, type in web addresses, instant message, etc. (for those of you who don't like to press a key 3 times for a letter) The phone book is great and lets you store to about 200 or so contacts (which is way more than I need). The screen is fully customizable by letting you select any of wallpapers it comes with (or the ones you download) and lets you select color themes. As far as games go, it only comes with 2 games but they're great games that I could spend a couple hours on if I really wanted to. Once you get bored with those, AT&T Wireless has A LOT of games to choose from (60-70 of them) if your willing to purchase them. They're not too expensive except for games such as Splinter Cell and Tony Hawk: Underground (which are $5.99). The web browsing is great compared to my friend's Sony Ericsson T226 but I haven't compared it to others yet. The AT&T Wireless service is great in my area except in my house which I only get about 1-3 bars at. I'd say the only flaw in AT&T Wireless is their customer service. Don't get me wrong, they're all friendly and nice people, but every time I call it says that they're experiencing high call volume and it puts me on hold for 40 minutes to an hour. My particular phone has been having some defects like my buttons stick, as soon as I place a call it goes to speakerphone, when I try to hang up and i'm on headset volume it goes to speakerphone (or when your on speakerphone vice versa) but that's only in the cold when I'm outside, and theres a black spot on one of the recievers connecting the keypad to the rest of the body that I haven't noticed before. I think that it's just my particular phone though. I'll be sure to look at any warranties before I decide to take it back or not. Anyway, take my advice and get this phone if your looking to get one. This phone is definately one of the best phones out there with excellent service. It's definately worth your money.
