Motorola i730 Phone (Nextel)
idiots rating this phone poorly

The i730 is the best phone on the market with the features it has. Nextel is the best carrier i have ever had. I have never gone anywhere and not had service. In fact i have had service where verizon does not. As for the idiots who say nextel is not competitive in prices. i just bought two new contracts for christmas got the i730's for 175.00 each and got 1000 anytime minutes unlimited night and weekend, direct connect, long distance and roaming for 39.99 per month. There is no phone carrier that even comes close to this deal. All anyone has to do is figure out that you buy a new contract in december when the prices are the best. if you have existing service sign up for a new contrat on your existing account and then drop the old line of service. come on people this is not rocket science
Product features:
The i730 comes with a new 65k color display with enhanced clarity that allows you to customize your screen with downloadable wallpapers, adjustable color palettes, and choice of three font sizes
Hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone
Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned contact by pressing the PTT button from the main idle screen
Comes with a powerful datebook that allows you to book meetings, plan events, and set alarms that will automatically turn-on the phone if needed
Phone can store up to 600 contact entries - Store up to seven numbers for a single name

Great Phone

I got this phone to use just for emergencies. Well I find my self using it for so much more. It gets great reception and does not cost a fortune. I also love it because it is prepaid and I only have to topup every 90 days. The ringtones are excellent as well as the battery allows for up to 3.5 hours of talk time and 7.5 days of standby time, and this little phone only weighs 3.5 ounces .
The calling features are great too, they include vibrate mode, 1-touch and voice dialing, polyphonic ring tones, ringer ID, picture ID, and more. Messaging and Internet features include EMS picture messaging capability, 2-way text messaging with predictive text entry, high-speed data download, and even a GPS function. For self-organization, the Rave K-7 provides an alarm, and calendar.

Dazzling blue backlighting

the best...but not the greatest

more like 4.5 .i previously had a nokia 3390 and upgraded to this one because it was one of the nicest phones i've ever seen. First, i wanted a flip phone because i was tired of the whole deal with "locking the keys" to the my phone and having it not work, and accidently calling someone. So i wanted a flip phone. There are cheaper flip phones out there obviously, but i wanted more features. The camera with the flash was a big plus, and i am a train commuter, so having the games on the phone is a good way to pass the time when i don't feel like reading. I also liked the organizer too. Anything else about the phone was an added plus. that i didn't know i wanted till i got it.
I am very happy with my phone, but there are a few things that would have maded it the greatest phone out there.1. The phone can make pictures look red when taking pictures that are not in natural light. However i found a way to remedy this. If you have a lightsource that is white nearby, quickly point your camera toward it before taking pictures, and it will get rid of the redness. You can also quickly just hold it up against anything else white. For those familiar with film, this is called a "white balance". Kind of annoying but this is a cell phone not a digital camera
2. There are features that this phone has that the manual does not tell you about, for example taking a picture of yourself, or even taking a picture of yourself with a flash.
3. The picture quality is nothing great. I wasn't expecting great anyways, but if you don't have a camera at the spur of a moment, this will do.
4. The flash has a very limited range, but at least it has one. I've only found the flash useful for taking close up pictures.
5. The zoom gets pixely when you zoom too close.
6. If you get the t-zones, for some reason you can't download games through them (but i have downloaded games from other wap sites) and they have not set up the "My Journal" portion of the wap, which is supposed to let you post pictures to the web.Everything else is top notch as far as cell phones go right now. They give you a GOOD hands free set(my nokia one had problems with people hearing me so i had to hold the mic up to my mouth defeating the purpose)and they give you a belt clip which i use all the time. I also love the fact that the external display is always on. Although it doesn't have voice dialing I don't care about it because i use speed dialing.I would also recommend getting the data cable for the phone because it is stupid to have to email yourself pictures. I got mine with the GRPS disc off the internet for 25 bucks. I've seen it for as much as 90 dollars. So if you are willing to deal out the cash, this phone will meet all your expectations. I highly recommend it.

Device is great, Sprint is not

I bought this device a week ago. It took me only one day to understand all its functions and get comfortable with it. It would have taken longer had I not been using a handspring visor for past couple of years. I liked the device and all the capabilities - I can trade stocks via ameritrade, read news from various sources, search google and send emails/IM, without having to worry about wires and a seating place. The keyboard is comfortable and although I never thought I would type a word without a typo, I was surprised how easy it is to type on that little keyboard. The camera is there to raise the price-tag IMO, as it is totally useless given the resolution and lighting requirements to use it effectively. So as a wireless PDA - it gets 9 on 10 on my scale. Now for the bad part : Sprint. The $15 a month for unlimited wireless internet got me. Seeing that I would be using the internet features the most, I took Sprint service on that. Besides, being CDMA I thought it would run faster than other wi-fi services. I get full strength signal only when I am at the 5th floor of my office, in a room with glass walls. It is useless at my home, where one of my friends laughed quite hard when his call dropped a good number of times in couple of minutes. I am lucky to get a single strength signal at my home. I even tried stepping out of there, but no good - thanks to the cloud cover over Santa Clara which doesnt seem to go away any soon. I am waiting for sunny days to see how good it works. I am tied to a 2 year contract with Sprint due to my impulse purchase. So, if you want to buy the Sprint version, think again. I do not know anyone who has a non-sprint version of Treo 600, but I bet they are more happy than I am. My friends liked the device, and have plans to buy it soon. They sure wont buy the Sprint version after seeing my fate. When used with Sprint, its like a Ferrari, only with a Geo Metro engine to run on :)

THIS BABY IS GOLD! I USE MINE WITH A Panasonic KX-TG5110M 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone .I HAD NO TROUBLE HEARING MY INCOMING CALLS..I HAVE NEVER USED A HEAD SET BEFORE SO I HAD SEVERAL "GUINEA PIGS" before I rendered a review on the way it preformed w/ my callers hearing me.
I spoke in an average tone voice..then a whisper w/OUT touching the mic volume and the caller had no trouble hearing my voice even @ this lowered level!
I CANNOT VOUCH for its performance w/ any other brand phone..
BUT w/ my Panasonic KX-TG5110M 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone .... it's a winner!

Quack Device

Folks, this is nothing more than a sticker with a design on it.

It can in no way, and does in no way improve reception at all.

They were selling these for $20, now I see they are down to $1, and even that is a rip off, unless you are a collector of quack devices, in which case, you must have this for your collection of quack devices from this century.

I am keeping mine in it's bubble package and display it on the wall near my test bench.

One day these will be worth something as collectors items, but don't get one beleiving that it can actually do what it claims, because that is physically impossible.

Poor Reception

I love this phone and want to keep it; but, I can't receive or make calls--even put in an antenna. My location is less than one mile from Millbrae, California BART (near SFO)station--doesn't receive/send there either. Tried a Samsung v206 and it works great! Never getting another SonyEricsson phone again!!! T-mobile

Often times you'll se on this board and others 5 stars or something similar given to just about everything. This really is not how a ratings system helps anyone make an informed choice. Instead reserve that 5th start for something groundbreaking or revolutionary, but a standard cell phone does not merit this.

Having said that, with the Sony Ericsson T610 is an excellent 4 star phone and has nearly every feature you could need, in a standard cell phone.

One feature of great importance is Bluetooth. (While the T610 currently uses version 1.1, I think it is important to take some time with this feature.) This technology, now with version 1.2, is a great breakthrough. With it, you can sync messages, send contacts, copy entire phonebooks, send encrypted files and more from a distance of about 330 feet (+ or - 15 feet). While this is now just available, it is important to embrace the technology and understand how to use it. It will be more important in our short term future.

The T610 implements Bluetooth very well and is extremely easy to configure. I bought a Bluetooth headset for this phone which works perfectly, as well. (It was 28 dollars at
But let's move on to some other topics.
The other features that it has shine as well:
The call reception is superb; I have not dropped a call.
The clarity is excellent.
The keys are some what small; this could be good or bad depending upon your dexterity.
IMPORTANT: The camera is useless. Period! Are you ok? Good. Let's take a deep breath and move on.
MORE IMPORTANT: You should buy this phone for the fact that it is a phone which does a very good job being a phone; not a camera. Besides 2.0 megapixel cameras can be had for under a hundred dollars. (Fuji FinePix 2.0 for example)
The phone book is well situated and most of the controls are very easy to understand.
The ringers are good out of the box.
The phone can be customized to suit your needs as well. Plus at Wal-Mart they are selling the car charger for 8 or 9 dollars as well.

Conclusion: I have owned several dozen phones and used several different carriers (Service providers), and this phone in conjunction with T-Mobile service is superb. I have used it in other markets not just my own (Philadelphia) and there is no change in the level of responsiveness. A phone is a phone is a phone. If you are looking for a PDA choose the TREO 600, if you are looking for a camera, choose the Canon EOS Mark II. But if you are looking for a very good phone, choose this one.

NOTE 1: There is a firmware upgrade on some of the chat boards being discussed, but as I have had no issues, therefore I have not needed to get it.

NOTE 2: According to some of the user boards there is a replacement model coming out in the fall. But really it is most likely the look feel I think that is changing, I could be wrong. (My wife says I often am)

4 Solid Stars.
