Motorola i730 Phone (Nextel)
i730 great new phone

The good:
(1) Awesome Speakerphone.
(2) Bright display.
(3) GPS enabled.
(4) Thinner and lighter than any previous Nextel I've seen. The bad:
(1) No bluetooth.
(2) Only 3 polyphonic ringtones are included. (you can buy more)
(3) Only 3 wallpapers are included. (you can buy more)
(4) No games included, only demos. (you can buy more)
(5) No Alarm Clock function. (What'd they just forget?) USE THE DATEBOOK THERE IS AN ALARM ALREADY THERE. THE PHONE HAS AN ALARM, ITS IN THE DATEBOOK, YOU CREATE AN EVENT, AND HAVE THE PHONE REMIND YOU OF IT, HENCE, IT IS CALLED AN ALARM IN THE PHONE.
(5) No computer connection cable. They want $30 for this cable -- Should be a $5 item! (No, should be included!) SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED, AS YOU ONLY NEED IT IF YOU ARE USING THE PHONE AS A MODEM.
(6) No data services at all (no new ringtones, no text messages, no addressbook updating, etc) without an added monthly data fee. EVERY COMPANY MAKES YOU PAY FOR DATA SERVICES, NOT ONE PHONE GIVES YOU DATA FOR FREE, THE SERVICE PROVIDERS CHARGE YOU FOR IT. NEXTEL DATA USE DOES NOT USE MINUTES OR CHARGE FOR DATA SENT OR RECIVED
(7) That antennea on the corner still looks silly and snags my clothing...
Product features:
The i730 comes with a new 65k color display with enhanced clarity that allows you to customize your screen with downloadable wallpapers, adjustable color palettes, and choice of three font sizes
Hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone
Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned contact by pressing the PTT button from the main idle screen
Comes with a powerful datebook that allows you to book meetings, plan events, and set alarms that will automatically turn-on the phone if needed
Phone can store up to 600 contact entries - Store up to seven numbers for a single name

GSM Blackberry Much Improved

I got the Blackberry 7290 to replace my Blackberry 6710 which was one of the first generation GSM devices from Research in Motion. The 6710 was always a little slow and reception was spotty perhaps because of being limited to dual band coverage. Still it worked well enough all over the world.

The 7290 is a great successor to the 6710. The color screen is far superior to the earlier 7200 series and it is easy to read without backlight in normal daylight conditions. The screen is also designed with a "no glare" finish that is very nice.

The new device is quad band and so reception seems better in the areas that I travel in. A friend of mine is travelling in a remote part of Asia now with a new 7290 and he is giving it a big thumbs up.

Not much to complain about. The older larger 6710 fit my hand better but such is life. Perhaps a little more use will turn up a few more quibbles.

It is also convenient that the batteries from my 6710 fit the new device.

Overall, I would say the 7290 is a great choice especially if international coverage is an issue for you.
Product features:
Email, phone, browser, SMS, browser and organizer in a single handheld

A nice little thing that crashes too often...

I've purchased this cellphone a couple of months ago. I've been a Palm and Pocket PC user for many years, and I've experimented many other devices. The MPX200 offers an ideal combination between size and Outlook compatibility. You can easily view/edit your Outlook contacts, emails, appointments, etc. without having to carry around one of those bulky pocket PC's. Outlook tasks management is quite poor, and you need to purchase additional software to make it acceptable - without any other input device than the keypad, don't expect to write long tasks. On the other hand, this unit is a little bit too thick and a little bit too heavy when compared to other cellphones. But the ugliest part of the story is that the MPX200 crashes much too often. I don't count the number of times I had to "reboot" the unit, by removing the battery, since using the on/off button does not work !! This is especially boring since it takes forever to boot...All in all, I'm not sure I would recommend to anybody to buy this unit. It's probably worth having a look at the Sony-Ericsson models that are also Outlook compatible - but you won't get the Windows interface...
Product features:
The Motorola MPx200 Smartphone does it all by combining all the functionality you need into a single, pocket-size package
Windows Mobile software brings the familiar Windows experience to the palm of your hand
You can synchronize everything with your desktop PC -- automatically -- with a USB connection, or over the air
Functionality allows you to download music, games, video clips, and ring tones
Watch videos, news clips, and film trailers anywhere you go

terrible service

Virgin is appalling. I phoned about shipping charges and was told I could not activate my phone online, but must activate then and there on the phone.
So - they weasled out of giving my friend who referred me to Virgin his $20 'kickback' reward. (You have to activate online for this).
Afterwards, I phoned to complain - I was polite but firm, and requested they give the kickback reward to my friend. The 'customer service' rep put the phone down on me!!!!
I have never had this happen before.
Watch out - no doubt Virgin display this sort of blatant thievery in other aspects of their service. I will get my mobile phone elsewhwere.

Very disappointing.

I should have known I wasn't going to like this phone the minute I picked it up. It felt too light and "tinny.". The sound quality was weak with and without the earpiece. The speakerphone was barely audible. Within one day the battery cover wouldn't snap back in place. Before the end of the first week, it shut down and wouldn't start again. I switched back to Verizon and bought the Samsung i600. Love it. No comparison except both have the PocketPC OS.

Phone Rates 5 AT&T Rates 1

This is the first phone I have purchased, having always had company phones. I could not resist the features, and it certainly lives up to advertising. I unlocked it within a few hours of buying it, am using my TMobile SIM and it works perfectly. User interface is different for a phone, but having had numerous iPaq's I very quickly got used to it. Battery life is a little limited, but carry a spare. Display is spectacular, sound is excellant. MP3's and video's work perfect. Only downside so far is difficult to see in the bright Sun.

Watch out for order problems

Yeah the phone itself is ok, but the real problem with this whole offer is ordering through Amazon.com, as noted by another review already. I had a similar experience in which Amazon contacted me via email and explained that more info was needed to process the application....so when you try to "Revise the order" the operation times out when attempting to contact Amazon servers. In short, you can't update the order with whatever credit info that they claim is needed. I contacted Cingular directly and was approved in about 2 minutes, and after placing another order with Amazon I actually got the phone. But the other funny thing is, you can't cancel the original order because the operation keeps timing out when contacting Amazon's servers again. So I emailed them and have gotten no response as of yet. We'll see what happens on that, so caveat emptor for all ya'll.
