Motorola i730 Phone (Nextel)
THE best phone ever made

The i730, for many reasons, is the finest phone I have ever owned. I bought this phone hoping it would have everything my i95cl has...and found out it has MUCH more. The TeleNav application, pre-loaded, allows me to fully utilize the GPS service in this phone. The ease of use and ability to simply download ring tones and games make it simple to customize my phone. Many others have commented on the "disco lights" on the outside when my phone goes off in a darkened room.
The BEST...no better words describe it.
Product features:
The i730 comes with a new 65k color display with enhanced clarity that allows you to customize your screen with downloadable wallpapers, adjustable color palettes, and choice of three font sizes
Hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone
Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned contact by pressing the PTT button from the main idle screen
Comes with a powerful datebook that allows you to book meetings, plan events, and set alarms that will automatically turn-on the phone if needed
Phone can store up to 600 contact entries - Store up to seven numbers for a single name

neat little phone

after swearing i would never have a flip phone, i am now the proud owner of this little bugger. i had previously owned a sony ericsson T616 (see my other review), but swapped it for the LG after about a week.

this phone is great. however, the GSM service in my area is pretty good, so that helps. most people want to blame the phone for clarity issues or dropped calls, but usually the problem resides with your cell phone provider. i haven't had any dropped calls yet, and the clarity is on par with my old nokia 3560, which was on the (better, i believe) TDMA network.

the good:

* lightweight. yes, i am huge fan of the flip phone now. no more buttons getting pushed accidentally while residing in my purse.
* sleek, stylish design. it's just a cool looking phone.
* clarity of calls is great.
* good feature set - not too many bells & whistles, just enough to keep you happy.
* improved LG menu. i have seen the LG menus on older phones and they were confusing! the menus (i have mine set to "icon" style) are easy to understand and colourful.
* calls while on headset are clear.

the bad:

* ringtones ARE awful. half the time, i can't even hear the phone ring when i am right next to it. and yes, i have the volume turned up pretty high. if your phone is in your purse or pocket, you might be missing a lot of calls.
* another reviewer commented on the picture phone part of this LG model. yes, the pictures seem to be better than some other phones, but again, remember, this is a camera PHONE, and you shouldn't expect anything more than small, grainy photos that are pretty much only good for being used as wallpaper on your phone. i was surprised to see all the options for the pictures (b&w, sepia, zoom, white balance) - weird! i didn't know people would be that into using this as a camera.

the other:

as far as i know, you can't get these pictures off your phone. i actually did quite a bit of reading (on the internet) about this. apparently, there is a cable you can use with this phone - it's the same cable used with the LG VX6000. however, finding the software is another issue. i have read you can get some basic LG software on their website.

i haven't actually worked with it, but was able to download it successfully. i haven't tried the infrared port yet either. i think the basic consensus right now is that it's pretty darn hard to get these pics off your phone without paying for it.

battery life is nowhere near where at&t or LG will tell you it is. beware of this. some people think this has great battery life, some think it stinks. this all depends on what kind of phone the person had before they got this one. personally, i think the GSM network sucks up more battery life than the older TDMA network. my old nokia 3560 would get about 6-7 days standby and about 6-8 hours talk time. this phone gets about 2-3 days standby (if you're not using it much) and about 3-4 hours talk time. this is for the casual user. if you use it a ton, plan on charging it about every day and a half.

overall, i love this phone. i wish the battery life was better, but that's really it. i am very happy with everything else. oh, and mMode SUCKS. don't waste your money. :)

hope this helps!

Great phone

I've had the v551 for about three weeks and had nothing but good luck with it. After reading some of the reviews, its obvious they either didn't take the time to read the manual or didn't look at all the menu options. Example - you can store multiple numbers per name. My wife got the Razor at the same time and while I like a lot about that phone, this one was a better fit for me.

Pros:
- Great reception so far - even when I'm about 70 miles from the nearest large city.
- Battery life is too good to be true. Only charged the phone twice in the past three weeks and with fairly heavy usage. I allowed the battery to completely discharge each time which some users don't think to do.
- Camera works ok. It's not a 4M camera, but it is easy to use and for the screen size does what I would expect.
- Voice phonebook works like a champ - even in the car with the window cracked and the radio on, it picks the correct number.
- Speaker phone works well in quiet rooms.
- Good durability so far. I ride a bike a lot and need to carry in my pant pocket and it has survived so far.
- Vibrate and ring feature is great. I've had trouble finding phones that vibe and ring at the same time previously.

Cons:
- Downloaded tones don't sound as loud as I would like.
- Speaker is just slightly softer than I would prefer. Its not always easy to hear if there is much background noise. Most of the time I don't notice it though.
- Video capture was a waste of a menu option - looks like 1 fps and the audio capture has a lot of hiss.
- A little on the heavy side and a little thick compared to some of the phones on the market, but feels rugid enough to survive a drop (haven't tried yet).
- I've got this with Cingular and they get you every way they can. You have to pay for tones, then use up bandwidth time to actually receive it on the phone (buying off their site). It doesn't break the bank, but seems kind of stupid to have to pay twice for the stuff.
- AOL's IM is on the phone. Who uses that crap anymore? :)

I'm very satisfied with this phone and would recommend to anyone.

Frozen in Time

I didn't have this phone for 2 weeks when it failed on me twice within 72 hrs! I'm so disappointed as it's a sharp-looking phone with nice features and good sound clarity. But the display froze and could only be restored to service by removing
the battery. I returned it to Cingular as I can't deal with such unreliable performance.

Don't buy Samsung E715

The reasons are:
1. The screen display becomes complete while after 6 to 8 months of use and you can't see any thing on the screen after that.
2. The battery life is the worst of any phone I've ever owned. It MAY last 2 to 3 days in stand by IF I don't use it at all; if I use the phone at all, even just 10-15 minutes, no more than one day on a full charge.
3. The only good thing abount it is just the look and you can enjoy it for 6 months are so and later you have to junk it as display goes off!

Large LCD color screen feature 65,000 colors (128x160 pixels)
Built-In VGA camera with 640x480 resolution, flash, and self-timer

Nokia 3650 Phone (T-Mobile)
Fun, functional, surprisingly light

I did a lot of research on the phone before I bought it and my premonitions are realized. The phone, being packed with overwhelming function and gadgetry, is slow at times. In particular, from screen to screen when selecting a function. after playing with for a while you will feel like you're using a slow computer, where the programs takes a while to load up. I've only had for a couple days, so I havne't had a chance to try out all the functions yet. One concern I do have is how lint free the camera lense will remain. The phone can be taken apart easily for cleaning, but I think that'll only loosen the fitting and allow more dust and lint to get in. And yes - the dial pad WILL take some getting use to. If you just want a phone you can plug in, charge up, and be ready to go, this is probably not it. For its many functions will require a lot of setting up.
Product features:
Wireless phone with integrated video/digital camera
3.4 MB on board storage, MultiMediaCard expansion slot
