Motorola MPx200 Smartphone - Next Generation (AT&T)
Long time MPx200 user

I've been using the MPx200 phone for about a year now with mixed results.

In summary I usually describe the MPx200 as a pretty good PDA, but a poor phone. This is mostly due too its poor reception and constant loss of signal when everyone else is ok. It also seems to have many problems that most Personal Computers do, but generally phones do not. For example the phone just seems to need a reboot now and then for no apparent reason.

As a PDA or Pocket PC it's a pretty good device, it syncs with Outlook perfectly (except notes). Includes powerful email features that I could never quite get to work with gmail (probably a gmail problem). There is an enormous amount of software and games that can be downloaded and used. It can function as a pretty good MP3 player, with up to a 1GB sd card.

Searching for phone numbers is easier than any other phone I've used. Although switching to a person's secondary number takes a bit of getting used to (i.e. switching from home to cell).

Finally the battery life is unacceptable. Getting 24 hours with maybe 30 minutes of talk time is what I would consider a good day for my MPx200.

In summary if you want the features of the next generation of phones, most of them are here (except Bluetooth and camera). If you love the latest gadgets, you'll probably enjoy this phone even with its issues. If you're looking for a fully functional phone, without annoyances, you might want to look at other options.

Product features:
The Motorola MPx200 Smartphone does it all by combining all the functionality you need into a single, pocket-size package
Windows Mobile software brings the familiar Windows experience to the palm of your hand
You can synchronize everything with your desktop PC -- automatically -- with a USB connection, or over the air
Functionality allows you to download music, games, video clips, and ring tones
Watch videos, news clips, and film trailers anywhere you go

Rebate caution porting numbers

If you're with Cingular or AT&T your phone comes activated which means that when you have your number ported your original activated number gets canceled which voids your warranty. The website only says that they haven't worked out a procedure with Cingular and to contact Cingular. No mention of their dealer code cancellation if number ported. Some people are going to be in for a very big surprise when they don't get the rebate. Because I had my number ported which I needed I am stuck and Amazon will not work with me on this. It's a shame because up until now I have been very satisfied using Amazon. Now I feel like I've been taken for a lousy $100.
As far as the V551 phone... it's great and I'm really happy using the bluetooth Motorola HS 820 headset while driving. Voice dialing, clarity and everything else is fine so I don't understand some of the negative reviews below. It's an earpiece not a telephone and everyone hears me fine.
Mobile PhoneTools also works fine with desktop using Linksys adapter and the V551. It does everything it's supposed to do so again I don't understand negative reviews. I'm using XP and a 1.8 processor with 512 MB memory.
Product features:
Quad-band GSM phone with built-in Bluetooth
Integrated VGA camera with 4x zoom and video capture
MP3 ringtone capable
Features EDGE high-speed data network compatibility
Conference calling and integrated hands-free speaker

Cool

It has a nice color screen. It is small. Radio is awsome, but it doesn't work unless you have the earpice in. That is a major minus, but its not that bad. T-mobile was a pretty good server. It has 2 games. They are not wowable good. You have to BUY better ones. It also doesn't have voice activated dialing. BIG MINUS!!
Product features:
New color screen with the "classic" Nokia 6000 series style
Mobile Internet capability
Includes polyphonic ringtones, speakerphone, and an integrated stereo FM radio
Phone book capacity for 300 contacts
Receive messages with image, sound, and text

Nice Headset So Far

I've had this headset for a week or so, and so far I like it. It effortlessly paired with my Motorola V551. I really like being able to turn it on/off with the boom mike.

I don't leave it on my ear, and getting it on quickly when a call comes in can be tricky, especially with glasses. Hopefully that'll improve with practice. It does feel a little loose, but glasses do keep it on more tightly. There's a small removeable rubber shroud around the speaker that I just took off. Feels better and seems easier to put on without it. When a call does come in and I turn it on, it connects within several seconds.

Sound is pretty clear, though volume can be a little low. It can be hard to hear in the car, especially with the window down or at freeway speeds. But then, my car is not the quietest on the road, by any means. Person on the other end said they could tell I was in a car but could still hear me clearly. Indoors in relative quiet, it's been just fine. Person on other end couldn't tell I was on a headset. So far, no one's complained of an echo, which is an issue I've read about with some HS850 owners.

Others may like the flashing light on call, but seems unnecessary and just a bit Star Treky for my taste. Oh, well. Nice headset, all the same.

Product features:
Bluetooth wireless technology means that the sheer convenience of hands-free communication is enhanced with total freedom of movement.
Unfold the boom microphone, place the headset over the ear and a link will be established automatically.
This universal accessory encourages users to update, change and evolve because it is compatible with all other 1.1 compliant Bluetooth wireless technology phones by Motorola and other manufacturers.
Smaller Size, Bigger Power. This tiny powerhouse is less than 5 cm in diameter when folded and weighs just 20 grams.
Increased talk time of up to 8 hours and standby time of up to 200 hours.

Lots of Potential but not enough Magic!!!

After waiting a long time to upgrade my old nokia phone I knew it was time when I saw this phone. So far great phone but this phone is not perfect. I'm not going to repeat other reviewers but I will emphasize a few important points to potential buyers:PROs:
-Camera holds 500 fine quality 640X320 pics
-Camera has great effects features that lets you take Sepia or tinted pictures.
-Camera has cool zoom feature and a lot of other practical user features.
-No goofy antenna!
-Camera Flash is also LCD flash light!
-Screen is the best I've seen of all phones in this genre
-Phone not as bulky as other camera phones
-Good extra features such as outer LCD screen/Signal light/extra camera button/apparent IR port.
-Chess game is great!
-Solid Build quality (no loose screws or sqeaks).
CONS:
-IR port is non functional!!!This is my biggest gripe. There is no menu prompt or command for sending pictures via the IR port. In fact there is only "IR PORT ACTIVATE" in the menu, which does ABSOLUTELY nothing. You can take pictures but you can't transfer them without email or a buying a data cable. Also when you email pictures the quality compresses and looks horrible. I have a feeling if I do buy a data cable it wouldn't work simply because there are no menu commands on the E715 for transfering pictures or files.
-Sending Pictures Messages. Pictures compress in quality and look harsher than original when you send or recieve them.
-Battery life is not bad but CAN be better.
-Keypad is a too flat and keys are indistinct.
-Screen layout has annoying T-mobile logo
-WallPapers are ugly! (I ended up downloading)
-Ring-Tones are horrible! (T-mobile's customer incentive to download better ones)
-Phone is slow when turned on (Phonebook takes at least a minute to initialize)
-Outer screen is sensitive to cracking (mines cracked already)
-Phone needs more accessories (cases, desktop chargers, etc...)
-Manual is overly simply and doesn't describe or explain features well. Some features (esp. the camera functions) are entirely excluded.
-T-Zone button is sensitive to accidental pressing. (not a big problem except that the browser starts up and takes a long time to exit from before you can do anything else)
-The soft whitish rubber bits that cover the earphone hole and where the charger plugs in is prone to tearing off and getting dirty.
-Earpiece is very gaudy and the whitish cord is prone to dirt.BOTTON LINE: The E715 is too mainstream to be cool. It lacks Bluetooth, good accessories, a working IR port. This phone is for the average consumer who just want to take pictures, impress friends, make a few calls and download the latest Pop&HipHop songs for ringtones. If you're looking for more, don't expect it here.
Product features:
Large LCD color screen feature 65,000 colors (128x160 pixels)
Built-In VGA camera with 640x480 resolution, flash, and self-timer
Equipped with mobile Internet and text messaging
Supports 40-chord polyphonic ringtones

It is awesome when it worked

I have eliminated so much paper (address book, bible, calender, expense tracking, budgeting ..... the list goes on) Using the wireless functions dedad time is now productive time I can read and reply to email ... track my exercise program etc. Also it get rid of another device the pda. I now have one less thing to carry. The picture camera helps me to remeber names at church or else where. The pictures look better on the PC than the phone, using the sprint share feature I can send a picture to anyone with an email address in seconds. When taking pictures just be sure the sunject is well lit.Battery Life is ok, just keep a charger or backup power at hand.
The real productivity improvements come from the Palm PDA, the applications availalble for PAlm exceed the Pocket PC by far.
I can get a listing of movies, weather, news, exercise program, measurement convertion, calculator etc. I can have every version of the bible, books on the best seller list etc. With the SD Card the options blow the mind.Great app, with a better battery easy 5 stars without 4.5 stars
Product features:
Treo 600 combines a full-featured mobile phone and Palm OS organizer with wireless applications like email, text messaging, web browsing and even a digital camera
QWERTY keyboard makes entering text and accessing information fast and familiar-perfect for messaging and a must have for email
Built-in color web browser, Blazer, gives you fast access to nearly all the sites on the web-not just the ones optimized for mobile devices
Take a picture or share images with others via email-you can even attach a photo to a phone number so you can see exactly who's calling with Picture Caller ID
Because Treo 600 runs the popular Palm OS, there are thousands of applications you can download and use-like MP3 players, etc.

A reliable phone

I've had the phone for 14 months. It's been very reliable. I've dropped it many times, got some chips and scratches on the cover, and the phone keeps performing at top grade. The battery life is getting shorter over the time tho. I start to charge it every day, when I used to charge it every two days.

Voice quality is superb. Menu is easy to follow (I never needed to read the manual.) What I like most over other phones is that it captures absolutely beautiful pictures with nice colors and reasonable details. I also purchased a data cable to tranfer pictures onto my laptop, easy!

Unfortunately, the signal reception is poor at my place. Before you buy this phone, check the reception of T-mobile in your area. This is a great phone if you are lucky to live at a 5-bar region. Otherwise, get ready to apologize (to the other side of the line) over and over again every time your call gets dropped. :P

By the way, I'm not sure if this is sth. about T-mobile or the phone-- summer daylight saving time doesn't get adjusted automatically, you have to restart the phone (twice a year).
Product features:
Tri-band GSM phone is notable for its high-resolution display, VGA camera, and MP3 ringtones
Equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology
Built-in VGA camera with zoom captures images up to 640 x 480 pixels
Supports text messaging and wireless Internet (WAP 2.0)
Comes with 35 ringtones and supports MIDI and MP3 formats

Image...but little substance / avoid Cingular!

First the phone:
+ Very nice, colorful display
+ Reasonable speakerphone quality considering its form factor
- It's cleverly marketed as being razor thin, but this isn't the most compact phone out there - not by a long shot. My 1.5 year old Samsung E715 also has no antenna, VGA camera, color display, internet access, etc. and is SHORTER, NARROWER and LIGHTER than the Razr - that makes the Razr thin, but at the cost of additional length, width and weight

On Cingular:
- Started charging me for service the day I ordered the phone however they didn't actually put it in the mail for another week (and after I spent 30 minutes on the phone with them to see why it hadn't been sent)
- Seem to have adopted AT&T Wireless old customer service standards (which were horrific) - it took me 5 transfers and 90 minutes on the phone to cancel my service, at one point I got a rep who said "Didn't I just speak with you?" Yes, she had and then transferred me somewhere else, who transferred me back and she was then trying to transfer me back out again?! Who designed their workflows, a bunch of 3 year olds??
- After the previously mentioned 90 minute call, tried to confirm cancellation a week later (only 20 minutes on the phone with 2 transfers this time) to find out that my service had NOT been cancelled - needed to send me a return shipping label
- 1 week later, return shipping label arrives - the next day I put the phone in the mail using their 2 Day Fedex label - they receive it 3 days later and, of course, do not cancel my account
- Call again 1 week after I've confirmed that they've received it, they show no record of receipt - said to save me time I should leave voicemail for a 'supervisor' with the fedex tracking info which I do later that day (only 20 minute call with one transfer this time)
- Three days later call again to find out that the 'supervisor' has done nothing and that my account is still open, finally find someone willing to cancel my account (though I wait on hold 15 minutes while he's doing whatever)

Moral of the story, if you want this phone buy an unlocked version and sign up with T-mobile or another provider. The extra money you spend now will save you countless hours (and I do mean HOURS) of aggravation with their "customer service" staff who don't seem to grasp the meaning of the term.
Product features:
Razor-thin aircraft aluminum case
Bluetooth wireless technology
MPEG4 video playback
Built-in speakerphone
Digital camera with 4x digital zoom
