Motorola V551 Phone (Cingular)
I've had a good experience with this phone

I've had this phone for about four months now, and I haven't had a single technical problem with mine, even after a couple of typical drops on paved surfaces. I do charge it every night; however, I've found that the Bluetooth radio makes a very significant difference in battery life, which may spur some of the complaints about the shorter battery life than the V400 (no BT capability on that one). It is possible to turn off the BT radio if you don't need it for any accessories or connections. My charge lasts for several days if I do this. I really don't feel inconvenienced by charging daily and leaving BT on, though.

In general, the phone has great screen quality (compared directly to my friends' V400s), great speakerphone and polyphonic ringtone capability, great sound quality at both ends, great voice dialing performance (very useful with headset), and I'm entirely satisfied with the camera, considering it IS a cellphone camera.

I'll admit the interface was a bit cumbersome at first, but it's VERY customizable with changeable function keys, shortcuts, and menu orders. I find mine very efficient since I've tweaked it to suit my tastes and usage.

Additionally, contrary to some previous reviews, I have successfully transferred both information (phone book, etc.) and media (pictures, ringtones, etc.) to and from the phone with my Bluetooth adapter on my PC, without using Cingular's services. I did have some trouble getting it to work initially, but I found that it was my firewall getting in the way (remember, Bluetooth IS a network connection).

I suppose my one complaint is the conspicuous absence of games (only comes with a Bejeweled demo), but in the end it doesn't really bother me. I could buy a game for $4 if I really wanted one.

Overall, I find the phone very feature-rich and high quality, efficient to use once customized, and as rugged as the average cellphone.

Nokia 6600 Phone (T-Mobile)
A good convergence phone, but...

The n6600's strong points are 1) the Symbian OS, 2) memory, 3) screen quality and brightness, and 4) PIM sync with Outlook. I needed to replace my PDA but wanted a smaller phone than the Treo 600 and preferably with a good camera.Unfortunately... 1) the included WAP browser almost *never* connects via t-zones (need Opera browser instead), 2) setting up email took a few days of trial and error, and 3) MP3's require a third-party app and is in MONO, not stereo as would be implied. In the US, only T-Mobile supports this phone and their coverage is not as good as Verizon's.This phone is a good toy, but I've yet to see the all-time killer phone-to-have (with flawless coverage)...

Very good phone, but the vibration mode sucks.

I purchased this phone with Virgin Mobile. The good things about it are fairly easy navigation and the keys are very easy to read and type text messages. The bad: this phone's earpiece is used when you have an incoming call, thus this phone's music/ringtone quality are literally down the drain. When you have an incoming call and the volume of the ringer is loud enough just to barly hear through a pocket, the ringer speaker (earpiece) is very bad and sounds like it's pumping too much volume for what it can handle. Another thing, the keybad and badlights are not bright at all, making it hard to see. This phone is CHEAPLY made and by far has the worst service and SIGNAL. The signal quality had NOTHING when I was in the rual area of where I live. VERY TERRIBLE. I would suggest that you do not pay $100 for this junk. You can get a WAY BETTER PHONE for a WAY BETTER price. I promise you will be UNSATISFIED if you purchase this "phone".

What a great phone!!

I have waited months for this phone to be available in the states. Unfortunately, I was not willing to spend 300.00 for it. I was able to purchase this phone for $99.00 with new activation from Best Buy. Not only did Best Buy have great savings on rebates, they also threw in a Motorola Bluetooth Headset (worth$99.00) for free!! What really sweetened the deal was that Best Buy would pay up to $75.00 for your first cell bill! The phone has amazed me from day one. I am not the least dissapointed in the product. I noticed some people are complaining about the phonebook. People you have to read your MANUAL! My nine year old daughter knows how to add multiple phone numbers to one contact name and she didn't have to refer to the manual! The phone is not difficult to operate. There are so many ways to customize and personalize your phone to make it easier to navigate through the menus. I hope this review helps anyone who reads this review. Good Luck on your decision!

pleeeeeeaaase

to the people complaining about standby time, im willing to bet big money that you didnt charge properly. i already read that one guy charged for four hours. you get full time as listed by sony if you do not use it at all when you first get it and charge it for twelve hours. then you use the phone until the battery dies out completely, and only then do you recharge it to full capacity. this phone is not your standard phone, it runs with a sony operating system, do not expect all new advances in technology (ie. os) to be simple. dont be tech dumb and complain. take some time to play with the phone get to know and you'll be able to access all the features blindfolded. dont tell me the first time you used windows and all other operating systems you were the super whiz. If you were, then you should be ashamed you cant handle this phone. with regard to buttons getting stuck and stupid crap like that, IT IS NOT A STANDARD. you either got stuck with a defective phone, or you did something to damage it. sony does not spend tens of millions for quality control to give you crap. overall its a good phone, most professional reviews praise it tremendously, most user critics have not made the effort to truly know the phone inside and out, a lack of knowledge makes for a lack of judgement.

Amazon is great.. phone is great, just say away from AT&T

Considering how cheap this phone is, I'm not giving it two stars. However, the low price factor does reflect on the phone itself. The phone doesn't have a color screen or support Java. It has limited features overall. Also, I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but I have trouble connecting a call pretty often. I need to turn the phone "off", then "on" to solve this. The phone doesn't work nearly as well indoors as my Nokia 3595 did. Let's see... can I say anything positive? Well, this phone is one of the cheapest around. It is also very thin and light and from a few feet away, looks no worse than those $400 camera phones. But if ATT is offering a free phone with a contract, I suggest you get the Nokia 3595 instead. I had a much better experience with it, until I dropped it in water :(

Motorola Bluetooth PC USB Adapter
Adapter is fine, Installation and Rebate Questionable

I bought this for use with a Motorola v551 cell phone. This was a good deal because at the time the product description said it included the Mobile PhoneTools Software - it does NOT. The CD is for the WIDCOMM bluetooth driver only.

Rebate: Even though this says there is a $20.00 rebate the UPC on the box is not on the rebate form! So I don't know yet whether or not there is one. If there is not, this is not worth $49.00. I will return it and just get a generic adapter or buy the package that REALLY has the Mobile PhoneTools Software in it.

Note: If you want to use this with Windows XP Pro SP2 be aware that the installation guide that says in BIG RED print how to install is wrong - at least for SP2. Here's the deal. Their proceedure works up until the point Microsoft included a signed bluetooth driver in SP2. At that point the signed driver will always be picked over the unsigned WIDCOMM driver. Easy to get around, ONCE YOU KNOW. Just let MS install their driver, then go to Device Manager, select the bluetooth device and update driver. Don't do any searches but instead just point to the WIDCOMM driver.

Next Issue: When you finally get Mobile PhoneTools Software, either start at v1.23 then download the 2.16 (US) Upgrade and then use LiveUpdate to get to 3.19e. The 3.11 version does not appear to support LiveUpdate AND has a problem interacting (in that it doesn't) with OutLook 2003.

All said and done, I like the cute little adapter. It is a Motorola so, as others have mentioned, compatibility with Motorola phones should not be an issue. I really feel like marking this down lower just due to the very poor software installation documentation and problems - but what the heck, they're no worse than the rest of the pathetic industry.

unhappy customer

My concerns were the incoming and out going calls, I read the reviews and concluded this might be the phone I wish to have. Disappointing, the voice quality is not good at all, I do not know if this is an att feature like their cs, or it is NEC?'s design problem. ATT cs , on the other hand, is an impotent entity within a dysfunctional disorganization, where their system sets bunch of under-trained individual with no power to make a change to face the customer with tons of problems. I had called 10 times the sc, waiting 1:25 hour, and minimum 15 minutes, yet none of problems solved. They have me on 30 minutes plan and charged me $300 for roaming and additional minutes, during the first 10 days of my service. The phone sucks, service is worse than the phone.
