palmOne Treo 600 PDA Phone - Next Generation (AT&T)
I love this thingy!

I bet you can tell that I'm not a REAL techie. I just love cool gadgets. I love my Treo. I received it as a gift with the ATT service attached. I had to go and convert it to accept my T-mobile SIM card but that was easy, and now it works great. It takes better pictures than the Sony Ericsson t610 camera-phone I used to have. And I like that when you sync it the pictures automatically save to your desktop. I don't have to remember to send them to myself and save them.
The phone reception that I get in the Bay Area using T-mobile is actually better with the Treo than with the Sony. That surprised me because I read reviews knocking the reception.
The pda function works great for me as well. I use the Pylon software, and my calendar is in Lotus Notes. I haven't signed up yet for internet access because I'm an internet junkie and I'm afraid of huge bills for surfing all the live-long day.
I only miss one thing from my previous device: the "old phone" ring tone.
Product features:
Treo 600 combines a full-featured mobile phone and Palm OS organizer with wireless applications like email, text messaging, web browsing and even a digital camera
QWERTY keyboard makes entering text and accessing information fast and familiar-perfect for messaging and a must have for email
Built-in color web browser, Blazer, gives you fast access to nearly all the sites on the web-not just the ones optimized for mobile devices
Take a picture or share images with others via email-you can even attach a photo to a phone number so you can see exactly who's calling with Picture Caller ID
Because Treo 600 runs the popular Palm OS, there are thousands of applications you can download and use-like MP3 players, etc.

mMode: Buyer Beware!

I've had it for a week and here's my opinion.I love it: 1. crystal clear sound, earpiece, speakerphone, and earbuds; 2. SD/MMC expension combined with Windows Media Player makes it a portable MP3 player (and only this function worth the money I paid: $70 for the phone and $65 for a 256MB SD card); 3. Sync with Outlook for both contacts and canlendars (you can use your pc to enter the text then transfer to the phone, much easier than directly entering them through the tinny key board); I hate it:1. Poor signal reception. It can't get nothing in my office. Nor in the subway. Nor in my apartment basement. I guess that's what you have to live with if you choose GSM...2. Battery life sucks. I took it with me fully charged at 8am, and the battery has only 49% left at 1am -- after 17 hours. And I didn't make a single call! The second day it consumes 20% in 7 hours. So I guess the overall standby time is no more than 40 hours.3. very badly designed craddle/docking. It's very light, and in two pieces. The two pieces earsily fall apart. It holds the phone so tight that I have to use two hands to put the phone on and take it off. The connection can not easily slide in. Have to check it carefully every time. Comparing to digital camera dockings, this is a piece of junk. Also you can't turn on the phone on the craddle, because the power button is hidden and you can't reach it without disconnecting the phone from the craddle.4. Shiny black cover looks bad. I put my phone in the pocket, and it always collect the cloth dust in the pocket, which looks really bad on the black phone cover. If you put it on the belt or in a purse this may not be a problem.5. Manual is not detailed enough. The writer seemed assuming the user knows a lot Motorola terms and abbreviations. There are also typos in the manual. I'm a computer scientist so I finally figured out what they are about, but I still had a hard time doing so. I guess many people will feel confused as well.

The Future

I'm one of the many who now cant live without this phone. It's ruined relationships because i like my phone more than my friends! (Just Kidding...sorta) I can't even put into words how this phone helps you simplify your life. This phone is unparalleled. My boyfriend gushed about it for a year before it was even released. The full keyboard will make it difficult to go back to texting with T9word on regular phones.

As a device...I havent had any problems with the phone. It has a long battery life for what it does. I use it all day... and as long as it charged the night before, it lasts and then some. It charges quickly in the wall, not so quick on the car charger.

The screen is scratched...but all cell phone screens get scratched. T-Mobile has a wonderful repair program where you pay a nominal fee and they fix the phone if it really bothers you. Totally worth it and better than buying a whole new phone like most other companies would make you.

The flash on the phone isnt very strong but it is helpful in unlit situations. The camera takes a little time to process pictures so you cant take multiple shots (then again its not really meant to be used like a regular digital camera, if you want that, buy a digital camera). I love being able to talk to someone on the phone, take a picture of something, attach it to an email and tell them and show them exactly what I'm talking about. No more "you should see this!" because now you can show them immediately.

Its also nice to have email on the go. I never have to worry about checking my email 5 times a day anymore or sitting around and waiting for an email. They give you a large amount of space to save email and pictures.

I like the customability of the phone, you can change a lot of the action sounds on the phone to songs, beeps etc. It has a colorful touch button that can be used as a flashlight (menu+f). It also gives different color combinations for the type of alert you receive be it email, text or instant message.

It has a mirror feature that allows you to make the screen dark and see your reflection (menu+shift+m).

Its a generally smart phone. They constantly take suggestions and automatically update your software through the airways.

With T-Mobile's custimer service, innovation and ingenuity, I would recommend this phone for all the functionality you'd get in one of those bluetooth things but for a fraction of the price and double the functionality. Plus, if you're willing to sign a contract with T-Mobile, you can get the phone here on amazon for a rediculously small price if not free after rebates...
Product features:
Real web browsing
Built-in camera with flash
Built-in organizer with PC synchronization
Photo caller ID
AOL Instant Messenger, text messaging, 6 MB email account

Great Phone

AT&T (and everyone elses) signal out here is marginal as I am out in the country but I get a signal just fine and have had no complaints about call quality and have not had any dropped calls. The phone has bluetooth, & a good calendar and sync program (its got a camera but I just do not care about having a camera with my phone). C-net gave it (t616/t610) very high reviews, about best in class. The one thing about the phone that has been commented on on is the smudge factor, fingerprints do show up and a decent case is recomended. I bought a cheap one from CompUSA that was ok but kind of awkward, purchased a Krussell case tonight which should be a about perfect. I think there have been some firmware improvements made to improve RF/reception relative to earlier phones. I originally wanted a Nokia because they seem to have better RF/reception than Sony-Ericsson but none of their (Nokia) currently available phones matched this one on a functional basis for me at this price. Its a winner, I'm glad I selected this phone.

Supporting Bluetooth, infrared and cable, the T616 is fully compatible with any computer. Your phone books and calendars will stay synchronized and updated

Jabra EarWave Boom with Universal 2.5mm connector
Very nice design, but too loud!!

I bought the Jabra Earwave Boom as an upgrade from a cheap-ass generic earpiece. As i hoped, it's a much nicer product. It feels of decent quality, and it fits on/in my ear very well. It also looks quite cool, i think. Sound quality, in both directions, seems to be quite good.

However, my #1 complaint is that it is TOO LOUD!! Maybe it's just my phone, but with my Samsung i500 smartphone, even with the volume turned down to the minimum, i kept wincing as my ear would be blasted. Even the 'beep' after the 'Who do you want to call?" voice dial query would be painful.

However, i did find a solution. I took a tiny chunk of soft foam taken from some packing materials, and stuffed it into the audio canal through the eargel with a pin. It blocks enough sound that the Earwave Boom is comfortable to use.

If it had come with a reasonable volume level out of the box, i would have given it 5 stars.
Product features:
Ultra-lightweight design, unbeatable comfort, breakthrough styling.
Outstanding voice clarity and noise-canceling microphone.
Low-profile earpiece fits snugly behind the ear for a discreet look.
JABRA MiniGels channel sound for great reception and pivot for use in either ear.
Includes one EarWave Boom headset with 4ft. (1.2m) cord and four MiniGels -- two standard and two small.

very nice phone

I've had this for nearly 2 years and it has worked great for me. nice small size. it is difficult to see display when not backlit. i changed the preferences to leave it backlit while in use and have not seen very much drain on the battery, but the phone does get pretty warm. the only major problem i did have was with the speaker and verizon replaced the phone...no problems since.

problems

Okay, so the mobile web browser is slow compared to my desktop broadband connection, and the battery life isn't what it should be. Still the convenience of mobile web and email, the ease of a real qwerty keyboard, the luminence and clarity of the screen, the simplicity of operation, and the "Wow factor" of the rotating screen makes this a winner.
T-mobile service in NYC could definitely be improved, but if you want a sidekick, you have no choice.Definitely worth the price.
Product features:
Important note: It's required that you add the Sidekick Unlimited Data option to your service plan before you check out.
To add the required option, you must add the Sidekick and a service plan, and then on the Accessories page, you need to select the Sidekick Unlimited Data option located under Service Options (this option is located on Step 3 in the checkout process)
The T-Mobile Sidekick is the ultimate communication device
A large color screen that flips open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard makes for quick and easy communication
Stay connected with all your friends with unlimited e-mail, AOL Instant Messenger, Internet browsing, text messaging and mobile snapshots
