PCS Phone Samsung i500 (Sprint)
Wanted to like it but can't ignore 3 replacements in 8 wks

I recently moved back to the east coast and into sprint coverage. Having carried a PDA and phone for many years, I promised myself that when the time came for a new phone, I'd get a PDA/phone. After reading the reviews, I decided on the i500. I really liked the size and design (more like a phone than a PDA) but was disappointed and ended up returning it after a week. I had used a PALM before but most recently have been using an IPAQ with Pocket PC. It was hard to go back. It took me awhile to sync the i500 with my computer. The Palm software is an older version and I found the syncing not nearly as intuitive as working with my IPAQ. Also, the phone itself wasn't very powerful and I had to go outside to get and hold a signal. (The replacment phone works inside very well). I could've put up with the above problems but the final flaw was an inability to sync at work. My work computers have the newer version of PALM already installed and would not allow me to remove it. This caused the newer version to compete with the older version that came with the phone. I was able to load the older Palm OS with the help of a system administrator but was only able to successfully sync once. Also the computer (both at home and work) had difficulties recognizing the USB cable. I had to install and uninstall the driver several times. After spending hours trying to get this thing to work, I went back to my IPAQ and exchanged the i500 for a non-PDA phone.

Reliability problems- do not buy!

had the identical problem as previous writer. The phone's exterior display does not recognize when the phone is closed, so it always shows "verizon" instead of the time/caller ID. This is a problem because when I open the phone, it does flicker on, then off, thus hanging up on the person! When I went to return it, the guy in the store confessed that another customer had a similar problem.
should be replaced soon. hopefully will get a good one.

the i 700 loses data and phone numbers for no apparent reason. i have 3 times put in numbers and then lost them. it is diffiuclt to connect to the internet. it is difficult to hold the phone without pushing one of the the buttons on the side. the biggest positive is that the screen is easy to read.

hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it hate

This phone has all the features you could think of, internet, video, audio recorders, camera, etc. The camera may be handy when you have nothing else, but the resolution is horid and its almost useless. I dont ever really get to use any of the features. I really like the speaker phone! It is so bulky everyone always gives me wierd looks because they cant figure out if it is a phone or palm pilot. The material it is made out of seems real flimsy. It's difficult to quickly text mail with the circled key pad. The ring tones are hardly audible. Sometimes it goes online on its own and I get charged. Nokias are easy to navigate, but overall the phone just has too much useless stuff and is too big.
Product features:
Wireless phone with integrated video/digital camera
3.4 MB on board storage, MultiMediaCard expansion slot
Oversized display for MP4 video playback
High-speed internet access, supports Java-based downloads
Integrated Bluetooth connectivity for data transmission to other Bluetooth devices

great phone, but a little too big and confusing

The phone is great, but for more than one week, I can't find the volume button and I have problem to adjust the ring tone volume:) For some funny reason, they don't allow you to adjust the volume except during a call, and they hide the feature of adjusting ring volume in a secret place: the profile! What the hell I should know it's about ring volume! But after you get used to it, it is really a great phone, and I found the full functioning calendar super useful. Now I store all the meeting and oppointments on this phone. And it does has a long battery life!
The negative things:
1.This phone is way big and heavy comparing to other brand. I almost feel that I can use it as a self-defense weapon :)
2.Some most used features are hidden deep and not easy to find
3.The quality of the camera is not impressive, just so-so and so-so. But if you are not crazy about the whole phone-camera idea, then you should be fine with it.3.

GREAT PHONE, but internet connection can be annoying!

The phone itself is fantastic, full color, pictures, voice dialing, voice recorder, themes, etc. The only complaint I have is that in order to connect to the internet you have to turn the phone off and on again just before connecting. This is because the phone requires a "fresh" signal or will not connect (this info came stright from T-Mobile). Not a major problem, but tedious nonetheless.I still rate it at a 4 (outside of the interent issue it is a 5)
Product features:
Large 128x160 pixel 65.000 color screen
MMS for composing messages using images, sounds and text
Supports Java and Mophun platforms for the widest range of mobile games and applications
Supports Bluetooth, infrared and cable for PC synchronization
With a built-in 319 x 288 pixel camera and QuickShare software

Coolest device, but a couple nits

This is the only device I have ever purchased that I just can't stop grinning about. Simply the best purchase I have ever made. Caveat is that I didn't mind spending the bucks. Basically, this has all the important things I wanted, in a small package -- contacts, calendar, phone, camera, email, web, to-do list, expansion slot, etc. AT&T's office online feature is great (syncs your email, calendar, contacts with your PC from anywhere). Also, ease of use is excellent and straightforward. Screen is good, but not great. Some nits that would make this thing perfect: 802.11, bluetooth, significantly improved camera, faster wireless internet/email
Product features:
Treo 600 combines a full-featured mobile phone and Palm OS organizer with wireless applications like email, text messaging, web browsing and even a digital camera
QWERTY keyboard makes entering text and accessing information fast and familiar-perfect for messaging and a must have for email
Built-in color web browser, Blazer, gives you fast access to nearly all the sites on the web-not just the ones optimized for mobile devices
Take a picture or share images with others via email-you can even attach a photo to a phone number so you can see exactly who's calling with Picture Caller ID
Because Treo 600 runs the popular Palm OS, there are thousands of applications you can download and use-like MP3 players, etc.

Keeping my fingers crossed

I bought this phone for my wife a month ago, and she really liked it. It worries me that the past a few reviews are so negative. But I believe these claims are absolutely true. My first two samsung phones (SPH-300 and A460 from Sprint) all had display problems before. The first one lasted 3 years, and the second one only lasted 2 years (Can you believe I am so loyal to Sprint with very very poor receptions?). That's part of the reason that I switched to T-mobile. If the trend keeps, maybe this one will only last less than a year :)

Other than this, the phone is really great. Taking sharp pictures, a lot of memory space, sleek looking outside, the size fitting your hand just about right.
Product features:
Large LCD color screen feature 65,000 colors (128x160 pixels)
Built-In VGA camera with 640x480 resolution, flash, and self-timer
Equipped with mobile Internet and text messaging
Supports 40-chord polyphonic ringtones
Download ringtones, wallpaper, and games

Buyer Beware - Unless You are Lucky

I have read many reviews about this phone, and it appears that it has exhibited multiple problems. Also, Cingular had pulled the phone from its sales, but the dealer would not say exactly all the reasons; however, he did mention that the earpiece was defective. But, if you were lucky on black Friday, you could have gotten a "fixed" one from Bestbuy or the day before on Bestbuy.com with a nice rebate. Now, the equation is complex, so take your chance. It's too bad that good old Moto (like a Chevy) could not produce a better quality phone, given the number of people who would like the features this phone has to offer. But, please, who wants a phone that you can't see in daylight, fuzzy pictures, locks-up....anything else? If only, I got one for 50 dollars, maybe I would not complain? How many stars would you give it? I was hard pressed at two.
Product features:
Compatibility with Windows Mobile applications (Pocket Outlook/Pocket Internet Explorer)
64MB Flash ROM and mini-SD removable memory for extra storage
Link your phone to your PC with ActiveSync or Bluetooth
Fully synchronize your email, calendar, contacts and tasks
Built-in 1.2 megapixel camera with flash
