RIM BlackBerry 7100t Phone (T-Mobile)
I have used most PDA phones. The 7100t is the BEST

After being pretty happy with the Treo 600 I moved on to the Treo 650 with Cingular. Some of the issues I had with the 650 may have been related to Cingular but as a consumer who has the time or patience to sort through that. In general the 650 with Cingular was a total disaster. The phone had to be reset 2-3 times a day, bluetooth usage was hit or miss and I tried 3 different headsets. Worst of all, Palm just allows you to install whatever application you desire and does not manage any conflicts that may occur. Your first indication of a problem is the phone repeatedly recycling.

Now for the 7100t on T-Mobile. It's been nothing but goodness. Getting corporate e-mail configured on the phone was fool proof and having other e-mail accounts set up to sync with the phone was a breeze. The phone has NEVER frozen or reset. I have never had to reset the phone myself. The Treo manuals have an easy to access 'reset' button because it's such an issue for them. The keyboard requires a little bit of patience, but like a high tech car, if you want high performance and a good ride you have to take some time to learn. Yes, there are two letters on most of the keys and in the end that serves to provide a smaller device and also means you don't have to move your fingers around alot to type words. This becomes a nice benefit. I find I can type faster than I could with the Treo keyboard.

If you are used to a stylus, then it takes getting used to. The blackberry just does not use them and what that means is you can do almost everything with 1 hand.

A few words of advice to get productive with this phone:

1) download the user manual from the web site. it has lots of detail about the phone. be sure to read all the detail regarding how to use the keyboard.

2) don't be so concerned with 3rd party applications to put on the phone. this phone comes with most everything you need to be productive. i found with the Treo that I needed about $100 worth of accessory software to be productive and to make up for small software features that were not packaged with the phone.

3) learn the short cuts with the keyboard. you can scroll up and down by hitting 3 or 9 and can go to the top of a list or the bottom of a list by hitting 1 or 7.
Product features:
BlackBerry 7100t keeps you connected whether you're in the office or not, and it fits perfectly into your lifestyle. And your pocket.
Full-featured quad-band phone - This is one sweet phone, with dedicated send and end keys, speakerphone and integrated Bluetooth
E-mail - BlackBerry's always-on "push" technology sends e-mails from up to ten of your existing Internet or corporate accounts directly to your phone.
Big, bold screen - Read messages and browse the web on the big, bold ultra-high-resolution bright color screen.
Easy typing - The 7100t's innovative keypad is built for speed. Concentrate on what you're saying, not how to type it. The more you type, the faster it gets as the 7100t learns the words you use most.

Great Phone

I bought this phone about 2 weeks ago and so far I have had no problems with it. The sound quality is great, in fact sometimes it is too loud! I have had no problems hearing anybody so I don't know why people complain about the sound so much. The picture quality is very good, the only thing I can't figure out is how to get the ringer ID to work or how to put it on silent. Other than that, I am very happy with this phone and I would recommend it to others.
Product features:
Built-in camera with 4x zoom
65k color TFT display
Mobile instant messaging and MMS (multimedia messaging service) capable
Voice-activated dialing
Personal organizer includes calendar, calculator, alarm clock, and voice recorder

Cool and Comfortable

Excellent product. I was looking for a handsfree cell phone accessory that didn't have wires to get tangled. I used to use a faboulus Plantronics ear boom product, but I was always getting the wire tangled. Jabra's retractable boom mic works perfectly and the sound quality is as good if not better than the high standard of Plantronics. Another plus is that unlike most ear bud handsfree accessories, you can hear through the earbud. It doesn't actually plug your ear canal so you can't hear anything else.I only have one gripe, that is a trade of in the ability to customize the jabra. The earbuds can be changed in sizes but I knocked off and lost 2 of the 3 left earbuds and the windscreen. I was able to superglue replacements and it has been all good since then.Highly recommended.
Product features:
Sleek, lightweight design
Bendable, soft foam-coated plastic
Noise-canceling microphone
Premium sound quality
Universally compatible

Response to previous review

I was moved to write this only after reading C. Haley's review. I just can't believe we're using the same equipment. I used my headset this morning for the first time and the party I was speaking with said I sounded like I was yelling. I said I was because I assumed she couldn't hear me over the car and highway noise. When I switched to a normal tone she said that was much better. There had never been any need by her for me to raise my voice, and I certainly never had any problem hearing her. I commute from my home to work 35 miles away every day, and the reception this morning was perfect. The headset is so light it is soon forgotten, and the safety issue needs no explanation. When she called I tapped the multi-function button to receive the call and tapped it again when the call concluded. The up-volume control is on top and the low-volume control is on the bottom. Makes sense to me... This was all done with the device nestled on my ear. Last night I thought this was expensive. After the commute this morning, I'm convinced it was the best money I've ever spent.
Product features:
Simply turn the headset on, place it on your ear and a Bluetooth® link is automatically established
The multifunction button allows you to place, receive or end calls, all with the push of a button!
With Bluetooth wireless technology, devices work together even up to 10 meters (30 feet) away.
The overall compact size and lightweight (less than 20g) allows for easy storage when not in use
Lengthy talk and standby times include up to 6 hours of talk time or 100 hours of standby time from a single full charge

No Go On the Treo 650

I have a Treo 650, on Sprint PCS, with a firmware update of 1.08

For the most part, I actually like this headset because it is very comfy, and people seem to hear me well (the comfort is a big deal, as I often wear glasses)

however, this headset takes a long time to connect with the T650 --- a good 7 to 10 seconds on most calls (and by then, most people have hung up)

in addition, the volume is okay in the car (or other isolated places) but forget about using it outside or in noiser environments

I've heard that it works well with Moto products though ---- for Treo 650 users, I highly recommend the Scala 500, which has fast connection times and loud volume

happy shopping!!!
Product features:
Bluetooth wireless technology means that the sheer convenience of hands-free communication is enhanced with total freedom of movement.
Unfold the boom microphone, place the headset over the ear and a link will be established automatically.
This universal accessory encourages users to update, change and evolve because it is compatible with all other 1.1 compliant Bluetooth wireless technology phones by Motorola and other manufacturers.
Smaller Size, Bigger Power. This tiny powerhouse is less than 5 cm in diameter when folded and weighs just 20 grams.
Increased talk time of up to 8 hours and standby time of up to 200 hours.

Phones are mighty annoying. To me, a phone is to call OUT, not to allow others to disturb me by calling IN. I needed a very small phone to put in my fanny pack when I bike, or my pocket when leave the house via car or on foot, and stay there, switched off, until I need to make an emergency or urgent outgoing call. This phone fill the bill perfectly. I've had it for almost a year, and made only about a dozen calls.Their service covers everywhere I go, and reception is just fine.
Product features:
No prepaid minutes included. Comes with battery and charger
Seven changeable backlight display colors to match your mood
External Caller ID Display: know who's calling without opening your phone
2-way text messaging, 1-touch and voice dialing
Charger included for powering up

Phone is solid, while Cingular not

I got this phone from Brandsmart USA, not from Amazon. $30 after tax for the phone with $30 rebate, plus it's only 1 year contract. Even better deal than Amazon (vs. -$130 but 2 year contract)

Pros:
1) Phone is solid, though feel plastic on everything.
2) Reception and sound quality are nice. Speaker voice is loud and clear.
3) EDGE Internet speed is faster than T-mobile's GPRS.
4) Battery life, shorter than T610, but is decent.

Cons:
1) No unlock. Cingular does not unlock their GSM phones, no matter how you talk to them, i.e. travelling overseas. It's their policy that they do not allow other SIM card on the Cingular phones. They also use 64K sim card instead of 32K from T-Mo. In order to unlock the phone, you have to buy accessory and code from Ebay to unlock the phone, which cost $25 including shipping. I finally decide to stick to my T-mobile plan, as they had unlocked my old T-610 a few months ago for me. To get a better phone, I have to pay for upgrade though. So if you are with Cingular, GSM doesn't mean international phone; it means a GSM phone can be only used in the US with Cingular.

2) No bluetooth. You have to purchase either USB or serial data cable for synchronizing and downloading MP3 ring tone, etc. This can cost you another $20-$30.

3) Camera quality is fair, not good.

4) Plan sucks. For $39.99 range national plan, T-mobile gives 600 anytime. I got mine with a promotion, so I pay $39.99 for 1000 any time, free night & weekend. As a new customer, you will get 450 roller minutes. Everything is more expensive with Cingular.

5) Customer service. In addition to not providing unlocking, Cingular's CS closes at 9 pm, while T-mobile is 24x7. The penalty for early termination is $240 in FL, while T-Mobile is $150. MP3 ringtone costs you over $2 from Cingular, plus you have to pay the data transfer time. A Cingular CSR (I believe it's a black lady) hung up on me when I asked why they can not provide unlocking service. She said she didn't know what unlock code I am talking about. "Hold on, I will get you a manager..."

6) Evil company -- Cingular. When I called Sony Ericsson customer support why the feature of time and cost (calling card feature) was removed from t610 (t616), SE told me that they got the instruction from Cingular and removed this feature not only for this z500a phone but also for later more advanced models such as K & P series. In north America, all these SE fancy phones, are customized for Cingular, though you may be able to get a few OEM unlocked ones from Canada. You know why? Because Cingular doesn't want consumers to enjoy the convenience to use calling cards and save money; they want to collecting more money from their subscribers for using their international long distance (2 cents a minutes vs. $2 a minute). As a result, Cingular subscribers used to use calling card feature with a click of a button now have to dial 30-40 digit numbers each time for an international number. EDGE and games are just other means to collect money from you. Transfer rate is 3 cents/KB. Downloading a MP3 ring tone will cost you $2.5 + 200K*3 = $8

Conclusion: Within 3 days, I returned this Sony Ericsson Z500a and canceled the contract. Stay away from this evil company.

MMS (multimedia messaging service) capable
Mobile instant messaging using AOL Instant Messenger

Total Waste!

This is the worst phone I have ever come across. I love Samsung phones but this phone is is awful. Softare keeps crashing and screen gets fuzzy/overlaps. I took this phone back to Sprint and the new phone is acting the same way. I thought maybe first phone was bad but once again second phone is falling apart.
