College student's review

For a free phone, this is about average. It's pretty small and is not flimsy.

Sound - good. I've never had a problem. It's always clear, and never too quiet. As far as the phones ringtone capabilities, they're sort of weak. They don't even have good ringtones available unless you're prepared to pay for the little program through get it now, AND the tone for $2.99

The response time to the keys being entered is insanely annoying. Also when you recieve a text and are currently writing one, you have to get out of it and go all theway back into your saved messages, and then you have to key over the entire length thus far to begin to write again. Bad text messaging phone for sure.

the background is tiny so don't be prepared to put anything cool on your wallpaper, you will hardly be able to tell what it is. surfing the web on this phone would be a pain.

OVERALL the phone, for basic functionality, is quite nice. If you are looking for something to play with though, get a phone with more capabilities. I've never had reception issues except where Verizon in general sucks for service.

I would recommend this phone to someone who doesn't talk much on one (batterly life = not good) but is looking for something to maybe call the wifey from at lunchtime. Like I said, it's pretty sturdy too, i've dropped mine quite a few times. If you are going in for a 2-year contract, probably spend the extra to get something that won't be outdated in a couple weeks.

Brilliant, 5-line, 65K TFT color display

PCS Vision Audiovox PM-8920 Picture Phone (Sprint)
It's okay, but mine choked.

The reception on this phone works well in L.A., but mine choked and wouldn't reboot after 4 months--all I was doing was assigning images to the contacts in my phonebook. A Sprint store replaced the phone (which was still in warranty). But what is truly appalling is that there's no way to download the photos you take to your PC (that I know of) without hacking the phone and getting a mysterious data cable that may not even work. SHAME ON SPRINT for forcing consumers into buying their ridiculous $15 per month minimum just to get the photos out of the phone. The only reason I chose this phone was because it had the highest megapixels available at the time in a cell phone camera. Sigh. Verizon is doing the same thing: pay extra for this... when all you want to do is get the pictures out of the phone. Ugh.
Product features:
Built-in 1.3 Megapixel Camera with built-in Flash
Voice Activated Dialing and 2-Way Speakerphone
Tri Mode CDMA Operation (800 MHz Amps/800 MHz CDMA/1900 MHz PCS)

Motorola i730 Phone (Nextel)
Not what i Expected

My sister and father both had the i730 before me and i thought it would be cool to get one since we could direct connect each other back and forth. But the phone isn't that great. Heres's the details.

What I Like:

* Voice recorder- cool for diff. stuff
* Speaker Option- Great for not wanting to always have the phone on your ear
* DC or Direct Connect

What i don't like:
* Whack Options for wallpaper
* Whack Ringtones

I can't even download a free ringtone like most phones. If you don't buy internet your screwed. The phone is boring.
Product features:
The i730 comes with a new 65k color display with enhanced clarity that allows you to customize your screen with downloadable wallpapers, adjustable color palettes, and choice of three font sizes
Hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone
Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned contact by pressing the PTT button from the main idle screen
Comes with a powerful datebook that allows you to book meetings, plan events, and set alarms that will automatically turn-on the phone if needed
Phone can store up to 600 contact entries - Store up to seven numbers for a single name

Nokia 3595 Phone (T-Mobile)
Good Inexpensive Phone, but not suitable for Business use

I got this phone because it seems simple and has all the functions I would ever need. I do not need all the digcam and extra stuff that I do not use. I previous used Motorola, Samsung, and Siemens phones but I heard Nokia got a good reputation as well. I liked the Siemens phone I had which was a S46 because I used the Infrared port on it to sync address book with my PC. Reading the product description on Amazon lead me to believe one can sync this phone with PC as well over Wireless.....==>> WRONG! The so called SyncML application is only available on an enterprise level, so one needs to pay $70 per month to sync their outlook with this phone. NOT!
To make things even worse, Nokia do not have a data cable for this phone or software. There are instructions on the web on how to mod a 3590 cable and use an 3rd party software to make it work but that's just insane in this age. Clearly, Nokia designed this phone for teens and housewives but the misleading amazon description says otherwise. The phone do handle the basic function very well though.
Product features:
Large color screen supports 4096 colors (96x65 pixels)
Send and receive messages with image, sound and text
Synchronize your phone book, calendar and to-do list with your PC using SyncML over WAP
Phone book stores up to 500 contacts, with up to 5 numbers and 3 text entries per contact
Personalize your phone with 8 different color schemes

What a waste of money.

Got this phone late November, and the screen went out 2 days later. Sprint replaced with a new one. The second phone they gave me would not store numbers. When I tried it would shut down and start up again. Got my money back. I'll wait for something new from Samsung!

This high-end CDMA clamshell phone is the first to add Push-To-Talk functionality
Equipped with a VGA still resolution (640 x 480 pixels) camera with flash and video light -- can also record video clips up to 15 seconds
Includes LCD color display
Features voice dialing, speakerphone, and call screening
Phone book can carry up to 500 numbers total -- plus email and web addresses

The crappiest phone I have ever used

This phone really sucks -- I agree with the first reviewer who says that you are lucky to be able to connect with it. I have t-mobile service on it which is equally crappy. They have replaced my handset three times, (i'm stuck with this model because an upgrade requires another year's commitment to crappy service) and each time, my experience has been no better.
Product features:
GPRS connection for quick Internet access
Bluetooth connectivity for wireless data transfer between other Bluetooth devices
Color display with customizable screen savers
Easy operation and menu navigation with joystick
Includes battery, rapid charger, and handsfree headset

LG VX6100 Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Nice features, especially for the mid-range price

The LG VX6100 contains some nice features, plus great possibilities for the phone hack adventurer. Those who complained about the side buttons are right, in my opinion-- they're irritating-- but a minor irritation, and not the only phone I've seen with this design flaw. There's tons on the positive side: decent phone camera, loud speaker, and good voice recognition. For the phone hacks, you can get a seperately sold USB data cable mentioned in other reviews and use the free third-party program BitPim to download pictures, upload mp3 ringtones (keep them to a few seconds each), upload wallpaper, and your Contacts from Outlook and other programs. The BitPim folks are still working on importing Outlook Calendar (someday...). Verizon also sells a mobile office kit that can turn your phone into a wireless modem for your laptop through their 3G CDMA network. Of what I understand regarding the mysteries of CDMA, TDMA, GSM, etc. CDMA is the best option, especially for fast data speeds.
Product features:
Built-in camera with zoom control and 3 resolution adjustments
Compact, attractive clamshell with full-color screen
31 ring tones plus vibrating alert
Voice-activated dialing
Large, 7-line 262K TFT color display

Not worth it

The phone is tiny and light, which would be okay if the buttons weren't also teeny and too close together. The screen is also tiny and fairly dim. Some of the menus are redundant and overly complex. I wasn't happy with AT&T's GSM coverage in the Washington DC area, though of course your mileage may vary. I spent hours on the phone with Customer Care trying to connect to mmode; it never worked twice in a row for me without a "communication error". I returned this phone and went back to my TDMA and my Nokia 8265 for the time being.
Product features:
The T226 showcases a large color display
Supports multimedia messaging, e-mail, and Internet browsing (WAP 2.0)
Features polyphonic ring tones and the ability to download games from the web
Comes with three games - Ace of Spades, Deep Abyss, Five Stone
Included with phone is a Battery, Standard Charger, and Headset
