PCS Phone palmOne Treo 600 (Sprint)
Best Palm OS Smartphone right now but I'll wait

The Treo 600 for Sprint PCS is the best Palm OS smart phone right now, and probably the best smart phone of any platform. Its best feature is the tiny but highly useable thumbboard. While I also like the AT&T Motorola MPx 200 Pocket PC smart phone, that thing does not have a keyboard so it's a pain to enter data. With the Treo 600, you get a very responsive Palm OS 5.2.1 PDA and a very competent cell phone, and entering data is a breeze.I played with the gizmo for a couple days but decided to wait for the GSM version from AT&T. The GSM version is actually slightly smaller and lighter, and also IMHO looks better than the CDMA version. Also the GSM Treo 600 is quad-band (at least the one being sold by AT&T), which means it'll work anywhere in North America, Europe, Middle East, and Asia, where GSM can be found. (You won't find CDMA anywhere outside the U.S.) Also the GSM version is supposed to have better battery life, as well as better 3G support, than the CDMA one.In short, if you are a CDMA guy and looking to buy a smart phone, the Treo 600 is your best bet. If you are a hardcore Pocket PC person, take a look at the Motorola MPx 200.
Product features:
Treo 600 combines a full-featured mobile phone and Palm OS organizer with wireless applications like email, text messaging, web browsing and even a digital camera
QWERTY keyboard makes entering text and accessing information fast and familiar-perfect for messaging and a must have for email
Built-in color web browser, Blazer, gives you fast access to nearly all the sites on the web-not just the ones optimized for mobile devices
Take a picture or share images with others via email-you can even attach a photo to a phone number so you can see exactly who's calling with Picture Caller ID
Because Treo 600 runs the popular Palm OS, there are thousands of applications you can download and use-like MP3 players, etc.

RIM BlackBerry 7230 Phone (T-Mobile)
Poor coverage and poor reception for voice

I love the blackberry for data, but don't count on it for voice calls. Mine drops calls once about every 20 minutes of talk time. Thats totally unacceptable but T-Mobile's response to my report of poor coverage in my neighborhood was "try driving a mile to the north-east, you'll have better coverage there." Hmmm. Very convenient.

I suspect the coverage issues are partially poor reception on the blackberry.
Product features:
Full-color screen with easy-to-use icons
International GSM service compatibility (tri-band: 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
Organizer with PC synchronization
Attachment viewing for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, and Adobe PDF
Supports Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino

T-Mobile Color Sidekick Phone (T-Mobile)
Now I know why this phone's first name is Danger.

I jumped at Amazon's offer in November 2003 for a free sidekick if i signed up for a one-year T-Mobile contract. The device itself is extremely well thought out, and user-friendly. but I can't recommend this phone, because the T-Mobile service is too spotty. It's dicey making calls to anyone your care about (sorry mom) because you're going to get cut off. When I do have service, I like surfing the internet, and using the Instant messaging. But I'm also paranoid that this thing is going to stop working. When I bought my sidekick, I was unaware of a looming fatal hardware problem known as Net 7. After 3 weeks of using my new Sidekick i stopped recieving any signal. So I called customer service, and was surprised to learn that they would only offer me a refurbished phone. That was a drag, I bought it new and a month later I was using someone else's old phone. Sort of the old bait-and-switch. If you are looking for a hybrid device, i would consider the Handspring Treo, or shell out the big bucks for a Blackberry. The Sidekick is a neat toy, but if you need a phone to make calls and want to check your e-mail reliably, you're in for a disappointment.
Product features:
Important note: It's required that you add the Sidekick Unlimited Data option to your service plan before you check out.
To add the required option, you must add the Sidekick and a service plan, and then on the Accessories page, you need to select the Sidekick Unlimited Data option located under Service Options (this option is located on Step 3 in the checkout process)
The T-Mobile Sidekick is the ultimate communication device
A large color screen that flips open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard makes for quick and easy communication
Stay connected with all your friends with unlimited e-mail, AOL Instant Messenger, Internet browsing, text messaging and mobile snapshots

Motorola T721 Phone - Next Generation (AT&T)
well, at least it works....

Maybe I've been spoiled by having 3 previous Nokia's that never had any problems? I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard on this phone that:
1) drops a call at least once a week and the screen goes blank
2) signal goes to "emergency only" all of a sudden in a 2 or more bar signal area
3) doesn't hang up when i push the (red) hang up button or doesn't answer the call when i push the (green) answer button -- happens about once every two weeksHowever, there are some good points to this phone:
1) it's pretty!
2) it's sleek!
3) it's light!I gave this phone 2 stars because at least it works most of the time.I just wanted a low price flip phone and this was it at the time. I wish Nokia had flip phones!!! I would switch in a heartbeat.Oh yeah, and don't even get me started on my AT&T service, after switching from Cingular....when I called AT&T about my T721, they gave me some crap about how I shouldn't leave my phone on continuously and that I need to turn my phone on and off every day to give my phone number priority in their database, or something stupid like that. And if you want to use AT&T's phone warranty service, they make you pay $25 not including the shipping you pay to send them your phone! All around not a happy camper with the T721 & AT&T

Motorola i530 Black Phone (Nextel)
Great phone so far!

So far this is a great phone. Feels very sturdy, and good thing too, I've already dropped it twice with no defects noted. A no frills phone, gets as good as or better reception than my AT+T GSM phone. Feels good in the hand and on the belt, and is not as thick as many other Nextel phones. Speakerphone works great, and the headset volume is plenty loud enough. On to the bad. The battery life is dismal. My battery is almost dead after 2 days use, with only 30 minutes of talk time. Why can't you make folders under your personal contacts. So you can keep personal and work related contacts seperate, and not have to scroll through a whole list to find one name?On a side note, if you order from Nextel, give them a call. I got my phone down to $75, free activation, a free car charger and a $75 rebate!
Product features:
Motorola i530 is great for those who need added durability, and want other great features
Provides operation of phone when closed with a single key
Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned Direct Connect contact by pressing the PTT button (also works for Group Connect)
Hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone
Performs in dusty environments, stands up to short drops and exposure to vibration from heavy machinery use

Motorola V66 Phone (T-Mobile)
Clumsier than it looks.

I live in a smallish US city (Portland, OR - about 600,000 people in the city proper) and I have been using a Nokia 3390 with my T-Mobile account for the last year (I had older Nokias before) and the 3390 did alright - it would break up in certain areas, work great in others. But I should add that EVERYONE I know with a cell phone experiences these issues regardless of phone type or service.I just replaced the Nokia 3390 with a Motorola V66 so that I could have a phone that works in Europe, where I must frequently travel for business. T-Mobile gave it to me for free, so if I don't like it I can always pop the SIM card back in my Nokia. So far, so good. The V66 does well here in town, even in those areas where the Nokia was dicey. It is tiny and light by comparison, and so I would not be surprised if the battery life is not so long - but even there it is off to a good start, lasting 3 days between recharges (I had to recharge the Nokia every night.)The V66 feels a bit fragile compared to the Nokia (Nokias are pretty tough) but time alone will tell. I have broken Nokias through my own negligence, and I might break this one. We'll see.I like the little screen and small size very much. The V66 slips into my pocket scarcely noticed. The voice dial feature is nice, though primarily an amusement. Also, the V66 holds 500 phone numbers, much more than the Nokia (as if I really need more than 50!)I'll give this a real spin in Switzerland in March.
Product features:
Voice activated dialing
Internet ready with optional T-Zones service
32 different ringer options
Phone Book holds up to 500 entries
Includes phone, AC charger, and earbud

Very Good

This has to be one of the best deals on a BlueTooth Headset there is as of this writing. It paired easily, and lost its connection only once during an entire day (my phone?). In keeping with the well known practice of the 3 day conditioning LiIon batteries, I expected it to run out of juice before getting past the "all day" mark. I kept it on for 14 hours, and it never even blinked. WindStop(tm) is truly amazing, and I drove down the interstate, windows open, and even some passing tractor trailers were undetectable by callers (!). Plus, it sits OUTSIDE one's ear instead of an ear "bud" style, which prevents fit issues, and causes less harm on the ole' eardrum. It's quite uncomfortable with (sun)glasses), and it's possible that that my ear was a bit small for the loop. Otherwise, it worked like a dream.
Product features:
No additional phone dongle needed to enjoy 10 meters (30 feet) of range. It also works with your Bluetooth-compatible PC. And Bluetooth v1.2 gives you adaptive frequency hopping, quick connect time, and improved audio quality.
WindStop technology enables clear conversations in adverse conditions by reducing the disruptive effects of wind noise, including automobile air conditioners.
Rotating clip conveniently fits either ear, and lightweight soft foam ear pad stays comfortable even after long talk sessions.
Enjoy up to 7 hours of talk time or up to 250 hours of standby time between charges.
Call/answer button on the headset lets you conduct calls without having to pick up the phone. The Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset also supports several features built into many handsets, such as voice dialing, three-way calling, and m

Needs improvement

The sound quality is very good on my end. I can hear the people I am talking to better than directly with a handset. The gels are good and overall weight of the unit is comfortable enough on the ear.
However...
Everyone I have talked to has complained of a significant loss of clarity on their end, especially when I am driving in a car.
My suggestion is to look for a better quality product.
Product features:
Ultra-lightweight design, unbeatable comfort, breakthrough styling.
Outstanding voice clarity and noise-canceling microphone.
Low-profile earpiece fits snugly behind the ear for a discreet look.
JABRA MiniGels channel sound for great reception and pivot for use in either ear.
Includes one EarWave Boom headset with 4ft. (1.2m) cord and four MiniGels -- two standard and two small.
