Audiovox SMT5600 Smartphone - Next Generation (AT&T)
Audiovox SMT 5600 - great phone!

I bought this phone over a month ago because I wanted a phone that would sync easily with Outlook and it was very reasonably priced. I purchased it for about $160 which included a $50 rebate. I was annoyed when I went in to purchase it because I had to buy a data plan (along with voice) in order to get the rebate. In fact, I had to get the most expensive data plan (I intend to reduce it to the cheapest once I get the rebate check). I have to admit though that I have enjoyed surfing the web on my smartphone more than I would have ever expected.

I also purchased a BlueTrek Bluetooth Wireless Headset to use with this phone. I have used it extensively and it works beautifully. It has been very reliable with strong crystal clear transmissions. There is no discernible voice quality difference when I use the headset versus talking on the phone directly.

The ActiveSync with Outlook also works great. My only disappointment is that Outlook Notes do not sync with it.

I know there has been some chatter regarding inadaquate volume. I can only think of once or twice where this has been an issue. I tend to avoid using a phone where there is a lot of ambient noise anyway.

My understanding is that Cingular is not going to carry this phone now that they have subsumed ATT. It's a shame because this is a great phone.

Poor Manufacturing flaw makes this product less than stellar

What can I say? This product is great. I used it flawlessly with my Vtech cordless phone for about 6 months.
I had the SAME problem as one of the earlier reviewers:
He said:
"Unfortunately, the wires broke or came loose where they connect to the headset. Guess I'll have to buy me a new one."Really Plantronics. This kind of design flaw is simply unacceptable!

Nokia 5180i Prepaid Phone (Tracfone)
Do your research first

Tracfone, which is a company based in Mexico, is very shaky at best. After almost a year of trying them out, we're finally throwing in the towel and giving another pay-as-you-go company (Virgin Mobile) a try. At least the phones with Virgin Mobile aren't models from 5 years ago. But the problem(s) we've had with Tracfone, aside from trying to communicate with their phone reps who hardly speak English, is unorganization, bad tech suppport, and the product quality itself. Half the time we got charged double minutes because the phone was supposedly out of the area and in 'roaming mode,' when it actually wasn't. It took months for them to send me a simple battery charger to replace a defective one. Finally the last straw was my wife's phone suddenly went inactive - couldn't make any calls whatsoever. When I called to find out why, they could give no explanation, but said she would have to reactivate and start with a new phone number (this would be the third new number for her). Bye-bye Tracfone - it hasn't been fun.
Product features:
Phone comes with 10 free minutes upon activation, $100 bonus airtime offer, headset, battery, and charger
Simple-to-use navigation buttons and graphical screens
Large 5-line screen
Changeable faceplates allow personalization
Up to 180 minutes of talk time and 200 hours of digital standby time

Light, comfortable, great for eyeglass wearers, good sound.

Pros: Light and comfortable, very good microphone clarity, good earpiece sound.
Con: Somewhat difficult to wear; no earpiece volume amplification and microphone mute button.

I purchased a Plantronics MX153-M1 (for $22 at an family-run electronics store a few blocks away from J&R Music and Computer World), the version of the MX150 made specifically for Motorola phones - v60, v70, v120, T720 and later phones. The MX153-M1 adds a push-button towards the upper-middle of its cord that enables the headset wearer to dial the last-dialed number, use voice-activated dialing, answer calls, and end calls without touching the phone. The MX153-N1 and MX153-N3 are push-button versions of the MX150 for Nokia phones. The base MX150 itself does not have the push-button and associated functionality.

The MX150's earbud is anchored to the wearer's ear by a soft rubber grip that wraps under and essentially clips the earlobe (pinna). It takes several seconds to fit the earbud and pivot the microphone boom to their proper angles; this must be done each time the wearer puts on the headset. The disadvantage of this fitting requirement is that if you are not already wearing the headset when your phone starts ringing, you are better off answering your phone the old-fashion way. Once fitted however, the MX150 is light and comfortable to point of being unnoticeable. The MX150's FlexGrip design (shared by the Plantronics MX100 family) is better than ear-loop designs that can get in the way of eyeglasses and sunglasses; headband designs that can pull on the wearer's hair; and classic earbud designs that can easily fall off. People with earrings may not be comfortable with the MX150 because of its grip on the ear's pinna.

In contrast to generic headset microphones that often make the wearer sound distant, the MX150's microphone performance is very good and makes the wearer sound clear and close to the phone. The noice-cancelling microphone does a good job of eliminating ambient noise - even inside a moving New York City subway car. The MX150 family does not have microphone volume control and microphone mute functions.

Earpiece performance is good. The MX150 lacks earpiece volume control, relying instead on the phone's volume control functions. As with any headset design lacking self-powered earpiece volume amplification, ambient noise may be an issue in open or noisy environments, e.g. a busy New York City street or subway car.

The MX150's price competition is with the Jabra ProBoom. The latter has battery-powered earpiece volume amplification, but consumers should carefully weigh this great advantage against the MX150's fit and weight benefits. The two competitors also differ in push-button support. The MX150 family has push-button models for Motorola and Nokia phones, while the ProBoom family has push-button models for Nokia and Samsung phones.

Of the three Plantronics headsets that I have purchased (the other two being the M175 and M100), the MX153-M1 is the best one that I have yet used.

Plantronics In-the-Ear Headset with FlexGrip and Noise Canceling Microphone for Motorola
Flex Grip® earbud design for stability and comfort
Pivoting, bendable boom
Headset is easily placed on ear

4. Downkey automaticaly brings the entries from address book
5. IR, BT & triple-band - all for FREE - Priceless!!! Same with 3650 too...

9. Quicker menu response
10. WAP browser and navigation is also faster

2. Poor screen resolution - 3650 is just great

Read the other reviews and took a chance with this one...

I haven't tried any other hands-free set. I however have found this one to suit my purpose rather well. I've used it around the house (while walking around, doing dishes), or sitting at my desk. I've taken it outside while walking (not a very windy day) and numerous times driving.Only one person has complained that I was a little too quiet. Now, the only thing that I think I have had trouble with is that if I decide to remove the hands-free device when I answer a call with it, I usually have to hang up and start a new call. This however is probably my Motoral T720i.But great so far. I'm impressed. Good price.
Product features:
Increased hands-free safety
Microphone built into cord
Single earbud rests in ear for quality sound
Shirt clip holds cord in place, prevents tangles

Rating for ordering not phone

I ordered this phone and a V400 from Cingular ... the order was cancelled ... I was told by amazon.com that they can't tell why ... they gave me a Cingular number ... I called Cingular and was given the run-around ... eventually, they told me they can't tell me why it was denied and that I have to ask amazon.com ... this is amazing ... I have very, very good credit so I know it's not a credit issue ... I'm frustrated because I ordered it on the day the phone had a significant rebate and now the rebate is no longer valid.

Absolutely LOVE my Nokia 3220

I've had my 3220 about 2 weeks now and I love it! I have no complaints whatsoever! I've always had Nokia phones - this will be my 5th, but this one definitely stands out from all the rest! My previous phone 3560 was ok, but i was on tdma service, now I'm on GSM and the reception and sound quality is awesome. I never knew a cell phone could sound so clear. alot of people I talk to don't even realize I'm on my cell cuz it's so clear. I love the lights, love how Nokia's menus are so easy to operate and i love the look and size of this phone! I'm not really into all the techy stuff this phone can really do - games, PC, whatever, but as a phone it is awesome! The camera is pretty good - I havn't had any other cell phones w/cameras to compare it to. Overall, I would totally recommend this phone, however good luck trying to find one!

Beware of this phone

have owned the V300 for 8 months now, and it is nearly unusable. The screen and picture display is awesome, the ringtones are second to none, and it looks great - but it fails miserably when trying to actually have a conversation. My first V300 would drop all calls every 20 minutes, on the dime. After replacing the battery to no avail, I had T-Mobile ship me out a free replacement. My replacement now drops calls every 8 to 9 minutes! This would be funny if the darn phone didn't cost me so much. I will be getting my third replacement any day now...but after reading all these reviews, I now realize that a fully functional V300 is, as another reviewer stated, a crap-shoot. I intend to keep throwing those dice until I get a working phone from T-Mobile, or until they get tired of sending me replacements, whichever comes first. I highly recommend looking into Samsung instead - I wish I had.
Product features:
Tri-band GSM capability
Large color display features 65,000 colors
Built-in VGA camera with zoom
Supports text messaging and wireless Internet (WAP 2.0)
Comes with 35 ringtones and supports MIDI and MP3 formats
