Samsung E715 Phone (T-Mobile)
As close to perfection as is currently possible

OK, so I'm a geek...whatever.Anyway, I was looking for a new phone and couldn't help but to be underwhelmed by the Sony 610 and the Nokia 6150. The Sony had consistently reported signal problems and the screen is just too dim. The Nokia...Well, who wants to carry something like that around in one's pocket? And while I've always found Samsung's to offer the right combination of high quality reception and equally high build-quality, I was always underwhelemed by Samsung's lack of the "fun stuff," (color screens, games, gizmo's etc.)Well...as far as the cell phone world circa 12/03 goes in the US, this phone is currently "it." Most importantly, the reception quality is superb and the phone has the feel of a solidly made tool (as opposed to a plasticy feeling "toy.") Likewise, the software interface is intuitive and easy to navigate--sort of like a dumbed-down I-mac. Did I mention the aggressively bright display and equally aggressive ringtones?? No missing a call on this puppy, though you may actually want to turn the ringtone volume down--less you create a public scene! Also, the dedicated display on the *outside* of the flip top is a real eye-catcher.Finally, there's the funstuff...Namely the camera. While to be fair this whole cell phone camera thing is still in it's infancy, and these "photos," (and I do use the term loosely) are of only minimally sufficient quality, this is still the best cell-phone camera on the market. I think what people need to realize is that the "camera on the cell phone" phenom, in it's current incarnation, is more of a novelty communication device than a functional camera. Really, it's more a way of spicing up brief, flittering text messages with a 480x680 pixel image than it is a way of generating useful images. In short, after testing most of the competitors on the marketplace, there is little question in my mind that this one outdistances them all by a good measure. The only possible sticking point here is the lack of Bluetooth, but I personally have yet to be sold on this feature, so this issue matters not to me.
Product features:
Large LCD color screen feature 65,000 colors (128x160 pixels)
Built-In VGA camera with 640x480 resolution, flash, and self-timer
Equipped with mobile Internet and text messaging
Supports 40-chord polyphonic ringtones

Don't buy this phone

I received this cell phone in Febuary, and I loved it. The colors, the sounds, everything. And then, four months later, it doesn't work very well. The screen doesn't turn on right away when I flip the phone open. It shuts off in the middle of conversations. The reception is awful. AWFUL. It seems like it is just put together poorly. Good luck if you buy this phone.

Just Terrible

I hate this phone. I was a Nokia user until this, and I would go back in a minute. I had to get a replacement in less than 3 months, thinking it was just a defect, but when I went in to AT&T the girl at the counter said she used to have the same but couldn't stand all the problems. This phone will shut off in the middle of a call and it takes 2-3 minutes to reboot. I have horrible reception with a constant crackling in conversations. I am currently looking into what I can do to get a different phone... at this point I don't care if I have to pay for a whole new one! DO NOT purchase this phone... don't even take it if they give it away free!!!

Really good phone for the price.

This phone has a lot of attractive features that make it worth buying, but there are also seveal caveats.

The Good:
- The dual display is very nice, allowing the external LCD to display either an analog or digital clock (the analog clock looks really sharp). The main screen is full-color, which is nice, though becoming standard on cellphones.
- The battery life is long. I can go two days without charging my phone and be fine. There's also an extended-life battery available, though I can't imagine needing it.
- The camera is OK by cellphone standards, but having a flash really helps. Also, the phone has overlay "frames" that allow you to take fun pictures. Another nice feature is the ability to take self-portraits with the external LCD.
- The MP3 ringtones are nice. Instead of a MIDI re-creation of your favorite songs, the real songs themselves play on your phone. There are free services on the web for making your own ringtones, but Verizon likes to combat them.

The Bad:
- The included belt clip doesn't allow the phone to open while holstered, so you have to unclip it to use any functions.
- Sometimes you'll take a picture of the inside of your pocket because the camera button gets pushed.
- The external LCD is black-and-white, unlike newer models with color displays.
- The phone takes a long time to turn on/off when compared to other phones.
Product features:
Built-in camera with flash
Dual displays
Buit-in speakerphone
BREW compatibile for great gaming
Includes phone, charger and user documentation

Motorola HS810 Bluetooth Headset
Good headset, with a few issues

I've used this product for the past couple of days. Great design. Much smaller than you would expect from looking at the pictures. Here's a list of PROs and CONs. I won't cover anything you can get from the "Technical Data" section.

PROs:
1) Call quality is great on the other end. People have commented that they didn't know I was calling them from my cellphone when using this headset.
2) You can turn off the headset by closing the mic boom. Unlike the older HS801 and maybe even the latest model, HS820, you can actually deactivate the headset just by folding the headset. Your phone will automatically revert to non-bluetooth mode. Open the mic boom and it'll sync automatically. Just make sure to set your phone to automatically detect the headset.
3) You can turn off the blinking lights while on a call so you don't look like a 'Star Trek' reject. Just press both volume buttons at the same time. The light will go off ONLY for the duration of that call. If it were up to me, I'd like to disable the lights altogether, but I'll take what I can get.
4) Great design. A must have for every got-to-have-it gadget person. And it matches the Motorola V600 perfectly.

CONs:
1) Too quiet, even on the highest volume. The earphone is an open ear design so unfortunately, you can't really block out the sounds from your environment. When driving on the highway, this product becomes almost useless when calling someone who doesn't speak loudly. Doesn't help that my car's cabin isn't very quiet, so you may find the volume not an issue in a better acoustically sealed car.
2) Voice activation isn't very reliable. Only seems to work reliably in a quiet room. As with CON 1), you may not have an issue in a quiet car cabin.
3) The earpiece is not very comfortable. Again, this may not be an issue for you, but is for me. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10, in terms of comfort.
4) The carrying case is very stylish, but poorly designed. The headset presses against the top of the case, causing the multi-function button to be continually pressed. The headset is off since the headset is folded, but continually pressing the multi-function button causes the lights to come on every few seconds within the caase. Maybe I'll try the neckstrap provided instead.

Hope this helps.
Product features:
Bluetooth wireless technology means that the sheer convenience of hands-free communication is enhanced with total freedom of movement.
Unfold the boom microphone, place the headset over the ear and a link will be established automatically.
This universal accessory encourages users to update, change and evolve because it is compatible with all other 1.1 compliant Bluetooth wireless technology phones by Motorola and other manufacturers.
Smaller Size, Bigger Power. This tiny powerhouse is less than 5 cm in diameter when folded and weighs just 20 grams.
Increased talk time of up to 5 hours and standby time of up to 100 hours.

Tracfone Customer Service is AWFUL

Do not buy Tracfone service. It's fine until you have a problem with the service and then you are in trouble. I had Tracfone service for 2 years. I had no problems with the phone during that time. When my phone, however, recently went dead and could not be recharged, things changed drastically. I could not get an answer from Tracfone customer service about if/how I could buy a new phone and roll my minutes to the new phone. The customer service reps didn't understand my question, couldn't answer it, or at times gave different answers on different days. I am switching to Virgin Mobile's pay as you go service. It's cheaper, the customer service reps are friendlier and definitely more knowledgeable.
Product features:
Phone comes with a 10-unit airtime refill card, and charger
Simple-to-use navigation buttons and graphical screens
Large 5-line screen
Includes phone, charger and 10-unit prepaid card.

Good Phone

This phone is by far the best cell phone out today for AT&T.
Good call and sound clarity, easy to use, good camera quality, GREAT features, and good battery life. Speaker phone and the bluetooth feature is great also. The quad band of this phone is great because of the international calling capabilities. The phonebook need shortcut features. Other than that, the phone great. It's definitely an all-purpose phone. No complaints.
Product features:
Use the colorful customizable external display to identify specific calling groups and events.
VGA camera with 4x digital zoom, large 65,000 color display supports video playback
Integrated Bluetooth for wireless data connectivity, quad band operation allows use on GSM networks worldwide
5MB internal memory to support downloadable applications, MP3 ringtones, wallpapers, and photo storage
Handset comes with mono earbud, mid-rate charger, and battery

LG VX6100 Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Horrible, horrible.

DO NOT BUY THIS LG PHONE. The reception is acceptable. I am an experienced cell phone user. I found the documentation (manual, cd rom, and online) was the worst I had ever seen for any product whatsoever - really! The phone is entirely illogical in the organization of command menus. If you want to try something new, or do something you haven't in a while, pack a lunch. Just awful.
Product features:
Built-in camera with zoom control and 3 resolution adjustments
Compact, attractive clamshell with full-color screen
31 ring tones plus vibrating alert
Voice-activated dialing
Large, 7-line 262K TFT color display
