Audiovox SMT5600 Smartphone - Next Generation (AT&T)
An absolutely excellent phone. Too bad service is Cingular

In almost 15 years of cell phone ownership, this is the absolutely best phone I've owned. Excellent audio quality, perfect (tiny) form factor, high build quality, and flawless Outlook syncronization (usb or Bluetooth). I have an mpx220, RAZR, TREO 600, and Blackberry 7290 as well, but this is easily the best phone of the bunch. The Blackberry has better email, and the Treo seems to have a better application base, but neither factor is enough to make me give this up. If you're considering the RAZR, also consider that this phone is smaller, cheaper, and has substantially more functionality.

One note: my phone was locked to AT&T and Cingular told me I'd have to purchase a new (non-smt5600) phone after the AT&T acquisition was completed. Absolutely not true. This phone still works and if necessary can be unlocked quickly, cheaply, and easily using this site It can then be used with ANY SIM card. This is nice when traveling to Europe where inexpensive pre-paid SIM cards are readily available from vending machines.

Cingular, on the other hand, is the pits. See my 7290 and RAZR reviews for a summary of my experiences with them.

UPDATE: I'm taking this down from 5-stars to 4. This phone will not allow you to use voice dialing from the bluetooth headset if the keyboard lock is on. This a a huge wart on an otherwise great phone, it borders on making the voice dialing feature useless; Even worse is that although it should be a snap to fix nothing's been done about it. Shame on Audiovox,

Siemens SX66 PDA Phone (Cingular)

I've owned two Blackberries, two IPAQs, two of the MSDN promo ViewSonics Pocket PCs, some monochrome Palm that I never used, and an MPX220 Smartphone. This is the first device that actually gets close to being a real "pocket pc". It's got the QWERTY keyboard of a Blackberry with the platform of a Smartphone, and it's extremely easy to use. I find myself leaving my laptop in my office in favor of carrying around my "phone" for browsing during commercials, halftime, vacation. I still want native tabbed browsing, IMAP root folder support, WI-FI priority over the default GPRS connection when checking email, a stock ssh client, etc. It's a little hefty for holding up to your ear for extended conversations, but a bluetooth headset takes care of that. All in all, I'm really happy with the device.
Product features:
High performance 32-bit Intel PXA263 CPU, 400 MHz with up to 64 MB flash ROM, 128 MB RAM
Unique slider design, QWERTY keyboard
Connectivity provided by WiFi (802.11b), Bluetooth®, USB, and wireless data transfer via infrared interface (IrDA)
Cingular Xpress Mail Suite provides real-time access to your corporate and personal email
SD IO capable SD/MMC slot

Cardo Systems scala-500 Bluetooth Headset
Solid all-around, crappy charger

Perspective: I've used this for one day and have used a couple BT headsets before, but none in the past 1.5 years; consider me a novice.

Project: I'm an IT Manager seeking to rollout Treo 650s to ~ 10 people and am looking for the best Bluetooth headset solution.

+ Setup was a piece of cake; I paired it with my Sony T616 with ease, then unpaired it and paired it to a Treo 650 with even greater ease.
+ Sound quality good, range acceptable; I walked around my workstation (10 foot radius) and had no crackling.
+ Reasonably comfortable; I haven't put this through an hourlong call, but it seems to be comfortable enough to pass.

- There is a charging cradle for this thing. "Are you kidding me???" No, honest...a charging cradle for a headset. That really blows for travelers; this, in fact, is a deal-killer for my firm.
- People on the street will call you names from lousy futuristic shows.

Conclusion: If you don't plan to travel much, then I can recommend this well-priced BT Headset for both the Treo 650 and Sony T616. If you do travel, then see if you can track down a BT headset that shares a charger with your phone (likely the same brand as your phone).

My project conclusion: I just ordered a palmOne Treo 650 Wireless Headset (B0007T27B4) to test out and am excited that it can share a charger with the Treo 650 (not only do I not need to purchase an extra car adapter, but I get a bonus AC charger because the headset comes with one in addition to the one from my Treo PDA).

Excellent case!

After reading the reviews here of this case, I thought I'd take the plunge and try it. The cases I'd seen in stores were fairly cheesey, although they were cheaper. This is a wonderful case. The materials are first-rate and the fit is perfect. I highly recommend this case.

I like the phone but it broke in 3 weeks

The phone was free after the rebates and well worth the money even for what I paid up front. It has an abundance of features, which you can find on web sites. The good:
- features, especially the speaker phone
- battery life, 4-5 days with about 200 minutes talk time, dozens of pictures, emails
- clear sound even if it is somewhat weak
- the look, well designedNot so good:
- somewhat weak sound at the highest volume, hard to hear the caller on the streets of New York. The speaker phone on the other hand is loud, go figure
- digital camera makes rather lousy pictures. Although it makes 640x480 24-bits pictures, it is only 300 pixels/inch. That makes the image look snowy, grainy, and generally not something you'd want to keepDo get the optional data-kit, including the MobilPhone Tools software. Most of the software features work with the V300, with the exception of the Calendar.I didn't get this phone for the digital camera features, nor should you. As a phone, it is great, if that's what your looking for.

Tri-band GSM capability

Surprising ... Junk from Nokia?

I really liked this phone when I first got it. Of course, it was free and that helps, but I also liked its simple and straightforward interface. I didn't want a lot of useless gadgets and this is a pretty bare bones phone. It sounds good to me and has a long battery life. BUT, recently I've had a problem with my phone. After about three months I noticed the phone would fail to re-locate coverage after losing it. For example, in an elevator I lose coverage and that's fine. But, when I exit the elevator I must turn the phone off and then on again for it to re-establish a connection with the satellite or whatever. It can be a minor inconvenience unless you forget to check it or if you don't realize you've lost coverage. I find myself having to constantly check the screen. It's annoying. My girlfriend has the same phone and is having this problem too.

So far, a great phone

I just bought this phone a couple days ago, but so far it seems great. The phone is easy to use and program...the scheduling feature is a nice touch. The side buttons provide quick access to use both the camera and the phone itself. The driving mode is also a nice touch, although, people find it hard to hear me on the speaker phone. I am enjoying the camera and its ease of use...just point, click and save. Anyone could use it. I would definately recommend this phone

Not a very good phone

I use phone for talking. Not to take 5 mega pixel picture of a mountain or to browse webistes for free deals. And I suppose, I am paying monthly service fee for phone service rather than browsing, playing games etc. Of course I would welcome any add on feature comes on top of basic feature.

I used a nokia basic model from cingular. I liked it because I could see call lists for dialed numbers/recieved/missed. On this motorola phone, I did not see missed number log. In one day, I miss 10 calls, all I would see is last missed call number in the received call section. It is kind of confusing.
This is a very basic feature and is missing. I do not know who tried to call me!!!

Of course, I did experience call drops during long duration calls. Battery life is not good.

Let me get one thing straight to motorola or who ever the engineers building cellphones !!

Phones are used for Voice communication and it is absolutely essential that this feature works!! If I need to take picture, I will buy a 500 dollar 8 meg camera and take a good picture.. and If I need to browse, I rather log on to my laptop. Least, I expect is to have a phone which takes pictures/ logs to net and fails to perform basic feature.. The voice communication..

My suggestion, donot buy this phone. I am stuck as I cannot exchange this phone any more...

Colorful customizable external display
VGA camera with 4x digital zoom
