This phone is sooooo cute and tiny compared to the Sony Ericcson I upgraded from. I love the ability to change the size of the text and background color. It's perfect for what I need, a good phone! (I have a digital camera for taking pictures). Best of all I like the voice quality and ease of use.

Very reliable

I've had about 7 different phone models by now and my most frequent complaint is low battery life. This phone lasts all day considering that I have 3000 minutes to use per month. It has a basic organizer that I use religiously and find it easy to use. Compared to Kyocera models this phone is on steroids; non-stop battery power and very sturdy. I got my phone last year Nov 2003 and it has yet to malfunction or disappoint me. It is very basic (no cameras, clamshell cover, or colored displays), but still the most robust and reliable model I've had. If there was an upgraded model I would get it.
Product features:
Easy to use phone with high contrast blue display
Two-way text messaging
Compose your own ring tone melodies
Up to 4 hours' digital talk time, 120 hours' digital standby time with standard battery
Includes travel charger, owner's manual, and earbud.

Phone is good, service is bad!

First of all Nextel service is great in New York City (except Staten Island). I get reception pretty much all the time, only when im in the subway do i lose reception.
As for the phone, I really enjoy it. I've made a few modifications to my phone with the help of an iden cable (around $10-$20) ideninsider.com and bubbasiden.com (both are free websites and give you information on how to add ringtones, make your keypad flash to your ringtones and a few other mods you can do)
Its a great phone w/ great features and i am very happy with it.

Voice-activated dialing
Speakerphone function for hands-free calling

Jabra EarBoom for phones with Universal 2.5mm Jack
Jabra Earboom 2.5mm jack

The best thing about the Jabra line is that their earpieces STAY IN PLACE so much better than the clip-over-your-ear style headsets or plain earbuds. This product is no exception, and it's perfectly comfortable.I was, however, expecting somewhat better voice transmission quality (I tested it by calling my own voice mail and having a friend call me using my own cell phone). It's adequate, but somewhat muffled. I've had clearer voice transmission from my end on a Plantronics headset that cost about $25. Since I got it for $10 and no shipping on clearance, I have no complaints - the mouthpiece is nice and small and so it's easy to stuff the whole thing in a pocket.
Product features:
Increased hands-free safety
Economical and stylish
Superior voice transmission even when used outdoors
EarGel secures the EarSet in outer ear for hours of comfortable wear
Universally compatible with phones containing a 2.5-millimeter jack

Service Versus Phone

The phone is fairly good except for one major detail. The signal is very weak on the phone. Otherwise, it is a very basic and easy to use phone with most of the features that you will find in cell phones now.AT&T I've found to be a bit terse at times. They avoid telling you about certain charges and even on occasion I've asked the Customer Service and they don't know... or they have told me erroneous information. They will always give you credit for mistakes that they make, but it has been trying at times. The service of AT&T in general does not have a very good mobile internet plan or what would be called GPRS. They go by blocks... example: 1 megabyte for 7.99 and so on. The data plans are not what I was hoping for.Otherwise, their coverage is very good and their plans are very competitive.
Product features:
Samsung 426 is notable for its thin profile, light weight, and large, bright color display
Includes GPRS high-speed data and Java downloadable applications
Features 40-chord polyphonic ringtones
Holds 7 hours of talk time and 216 hours of standby time
Supports wireless Internet and text messaging

Cute phone, but poorly made

Right after our wedding, I added my wife to my cell phone account. We went to a kiosk in the mall to take care of it, and after much time deliberating, she decided on the sl56. She was happy with it, until it started malfunctioning. During calls, it would just shut off randomly, for no reason. She took it back to get a replacement, and there was another woman there, doing the exact same thing. Aside from the random-off feature, it has quite a low-resolution screen, with a limited color range. Also, the processor is slow, making the display take a big hit when displaying animated pictures, movies, and the like. When it did work, it was fine. But other than it being `chic', I'd have to say that it was a poor investment
Product features:
SL56 features the new innovative and stylish sliding design
Comes with 4,096 color display
Multiple themes and backgrounds for custom displays
Supports Internet browsing and text messaging
Equipped with integrated speakerphone

A rocket in your pocket!

This phone is COOL and I've had a lot of different phones over the years. It's very small and light-weight, something like 3.2 oz (half the weight of the Treo smartphone) and the Windows Mobile software is just incredible! My only complaints (and it lost a star for this) are that the rocker switch is a little clumsy and the screen is not a touch-screen. I could even deal with the rocker if only I were able to use a stylus on the screen instead. One other complaint is that the mini-sd card can only be changed by removing the battery. There's room for a slot, put one in! That is a rediculous and unnecessary inconvenience. Audiovox, are you listening?

Other than that, I am very impressed with this phone and the wireless capabilities that AT&T (Cingular) add to this device are priceless. Streaming video, WMA, MP3 and AAC support in the Windows Media Player version 10 Mobile are awesome features and the built-in Bluetooth adds tremendous value.

I carry a Treo 650 smartphone for work. While it has some incredible features that would make it preferable over the Audiovox phone, it has two big drawbacks, and those are it's weight and that stupid custom headset jack that requires an adapter or specialized headset. Why can't it use a regular 2.5mm headset like any other device? That said though, The built in keyboard is very nice to have once your fingers get used to tapping the small keys and when you add Pocket Tunes to it for playing your tunes and streaming audio, the Treo is a much better device overall despite it's hefty size.
Product features:
World's smallest Windows Mobile Smartphone
Call, email, text message or instant message - all from one integrated phone
Email, contacts and calendar sync seamlessly with your PC
Built-In CMOS VGA Camera with Camcorder
Built-In Bluetooth and Speakerphone

pretty much a good all-round phone

I've owned this phone for about three months. Pros: Lightweight, can synch w/ Outlook Express, speakerphone(great), headphone, polyphonic ring tones, voice recorder, to do list, good sound from earpiece, side volume control, internet capable, fm radio(only accessible through headphone, voice dialingCons: Poor reception (in part due to At&t gsm network), occasional SIM card errors, occcasional no service errors, will not work in some rural areas, small keypad buttons, games, phone case hard to findIn spite of the pros I give this phone an average rating due to the poor coverage of the at&t gsm network. They should have gotten the bugs out before they rolled out the service. I replaced both the phone and the sim card and still have the poor reception and sim card issues. Also couldn't find the nokia leather case so am using a small erickson that fits great.Three stars.

Create and send messages with image and text
Mobile Internet - XHTML browser

Outstanding phone and great service from Verizon!

I'm a tech consultant who travels a lot and needs to be contactable by clients wherever I travel in the US, and also I needed a means to keep in touch with news, weather, sports and world events when traveling. This phone turned out to be the perfect solution.

Using Verizon's high-speed EV-DO network which has coverage in most major cities in the US, this phone can download "CNN To Go" 2 to 3 minute video & audio clips in 10 to 15 seconds, very fast for a mobile phone.

Additionally, the video quality on the 262K color LCD screen is just like watching a small LCD TV and the built-in stereo speakers produces outstanding sound quality. Using the stereo earphones that come with the phone, you can listen to video clips at restaurants and other public areas without disturbing the people next to you. For using the phone while driving, I recommend buying the Shure QSHB3 headset with the NoiseBlocker earphone and noise-canceling QuietSpot boom microphone, this headset provides good call quality while driving over noisy road surfaces.

Speaking of call quality... for the past year I've been using AT&T Wireless/Cingular service with a trusty and durable Nokia 6800 GSM phone. My first call on the VX8000 this week was a multi-way business conference call with several parties, and I've made this call many times with my old phone and service. I was amazed at the clarity of everyone's voices and even nuances that I never heard before on previous conference calls, like pages shuffling and whispers in the background. Many kudos to LG and the Verizon Network for enabling this level of call quality.

Regarding picture quality, this phone includes a 1.3 megapixel high resolution digital camera with the best photo quality of any cell phone I've seen to date, the quality of daylight photos compare nicely to photos I've taken with a Nikon 3700 digital camera.

Regarding customer service, the reason I called Verizon was because I was with AT&T Wireless/Cingular and I called their customer service line (611 from phone) to ask a question about my plan. After aggravatingly trying to navigate their voice recognition menu on their automated "customer service" (what a misnomer) line which never did understand my voice requests (perhaps I was cursing too much after a while ;-), and then navigating several levels of menus, and then being placed on hold for 15 minutes without receiving any customer service person, I realized my contract was up and therefore didn't need to put up with the poor customer service...

After doing a lot of research (including Consumer Reports) on cell phones and service, I decided to call Verizon which has the reputation of having the best customer service in the cell phone industry and the best network coverage in the US. Their 800# menu was quickly navigable and professional and within 1 minute I was able to speak to a courteous and knowledgeable customer service representative. This helped convince me to choose Verizon as a service provider.

The only downside I can think of with Verizon is that they may not be as price-competitive as T-Mobile or Cingular on many plans, however Verizon's $59 / 900 minute plan is quite competitive with the other carriers and is the best value of any carrier (IMHO) when considering the call quality, network coverage and customer service you get with Verizon.

LG & Verizon, keep up the good work!
